Feature request: bring Max patcher to front

Post by janklug » Sun Sep 20, 2009 11:02 am

when editing a M4L patch, the patch (well, actually Max5) opens in front of Live. That is fine.
Focussing back on Live sends Max and the patch to the back; also that is ok, although a floating-option would be nice.

However, presented with the now greyed-out Max-effect in Live, i often found myself clicking the M4L-icon to bring the patcher to the front - which in a way it does; the operation however tries to close the patcher and asks me if i want to save it.
Well - no; I just want to see it..

 Conclusion:
It would be nice to be able to click the greyed-out area of the M4L effect in Live to bring the associated patcher to the front... without the saving-dialogue ;)

Cheers,

In Windows you can ALT-TAB to cycle through open apps, there must be a Mac equivalent c'mon!

sure, cmd-tab is a good friend of mine.. together with quicksilver and its cmd-space we have a lot of fun.

but imagine you have other windows open in max - maybe unrelated, maybe another M4L patch from a different device - you would have to continue searching.
while this greyed-out device in Live just seems to be shouting 'i'm a button, try me, i'll show you my patch'

If your hand is on the mouse, reaching for cmd+tab isn't always convenient. Being able to click on the grayed-out M4L pane makes a lot of sense.

cmd~ is OK but if you have large amounts of windows open in that particular application, it gets less and less useful

e.g. at work we typically have approx 12 files open in filemaker. cmd~ is nice to get back to the last one you clicked on, but to get to some other window it is too complicated in terms of which ones you have clicked on at what times, (the order of windows is constantly changing based on keyboard shortcuts vs mouse clicks)

i generally fall back on menu selection of app windows

I have the luxury of a lot of screen space atm, but can imagine this being a real pain on a mac laptop

+1 on this request, at the risk of geeking out on UI minutiae.

Double click on the grayed area taking one back to the patcher would be lovely.

The more I work with the product, the more this seems like an obvious nav choice.

Something like what has been requested will most likely be in the next build.
