Good audio interface for MAC

Post by tak!TAK! » Tue Mar 12, 2002 11:58 am

Hello

First off - love Live - finally some decent software for us Mac users. We get a bum deal sometimes!

I currently use a G4 400 TiBook with an iMic audio interface. Even though this has a headphone out I'm unable to get monitoring.

So which audio I/O device would you all recommend? Price is an option but not too much of a factor. More important is functionality and reliability. I;d prefer Firewire as USB just scares me! Although if some device can prove me wrong...

Reading the forums, I get the impression the Motu 828 sucks.

Thanks

Dom

I've noticed a lot of negative postings about the 828 too. I have one and love it. I never have any problems at all. I don't even use a mixer anymore -- just plug the master outs right into my amp. I have a couple of patchbays, so the 8 inputs isn't really a limitation. I have a 500Mhz TiBook.

I've had good luck with a digigram pocket vx...I'll probably get the 440.

I have used the 828 for several months now and think that it is great....I did have to have it serviced for a crakly volume pot though...however, once the wrinkles are ironed out it sound fantastic and can be carried to a friends computer.

How are you finding your TiBooks are holding up with Live? Are you completely happy?

hi there!

i use the rme hammerfall dsp and it is great. what do you think about the motu´s latency. on the hammerfall you can drop latency down to 3ms on a powerbook G3 400. is that the same on the 828. please give feedback.

thanx a lot

Hi sambo,

i can't set the latency to anithing lower than 348 samples witch is about 6 ms of latency

I am using a powerbook G3 400 FireWire with OS 9.1. Also cant set the latency of the soundmanager to anything less than 512 samples or 11 ms even if the manual tells me i can. I wish i had also bought the hammerfall...

The RME card bus solution seems to be the best choice.... leaves your FireWire port free for other things, although the 828 has been widely recommended
