mpc-style controller for live
mpc-style controller for live
I'd like to have a MPC-style controller for Live, that basically works like a MPC but with Ableton Live as the backend software. Then you could close the lid of your laptop, put the MPC-controller on top and work without looking at the screen.
Single sequences would be clips in the clip view and a song would be this clips arranged in the arrangement view.
This would work a bit like the NI Machine controller, but with Ableton Live instead of the Machine software plugin.
You could programm your beats and sequences with this controller and perform it live with the APC 40.
I think this would also open Ableton Live up to hiphop producers.

Re: mpc-style controller for live
yes, this is a good idea, but the controller must have a xy pad and a roll function same as the pad kontroll.
Re: mpc-style controller for live
Yeah, why not. The main point for me would be to work with ableton in a mpc way and switch over to another workflow or controller, like the apc40, when I want to.makeem wrote:yes, this is a good idea, but the controller must have a xy pad and a roll function same as the pad kontroll.
I sure this could perhaps be done with the max4live extension and pad midi controller with transport controls, but I'm to lazy to do it
Re: mpc-style controller for live
this would be reallly good..
.i recently bought maschine because i wanted to do the same thing. took me aa while to get it working in a decent workflow with ableton, but managed to get it sussed last night.. now i can put my laptop to the side, hit rec/play and do my mix.. and after i finish, i can go back to ableton and each pad is recorded seperatly and i can then tweek a lil and use my live track as a beat to shop later..
hope live makes its own mpc controller.

With a partner like Akai it would really make sense to get a mpc-style controller.Shephurd wrote:this would be reallly good..

If they would then build a small Atom-based pc into it, this could perhaps replace the mpc as such.
Re: mpc-style controller for live
I am in the process of developing a unique style of controller. It may be a little hard to describe in detail without pictures, but here goes :-
Basically it is a disc about the size of a CD that you are able to place your hand on, locating a thumb and finger into holes on the outside. You can then
Twist it or spin it 1 - Axis
Push it forwards, backward and sideways 2 - Axis
Roll it forwards, backwards and sideways 2 - Axis
This gives it 5 Axis input
Also you can press any of the 9 centrally located buttons.
The uniqueness comes from the fact that because you can spin it, all the axes and buttons are dependent on the position of the disc, ie. North, South, East or West.
This in effect gives you 5 X 4 = 20 Axis and 9 X 4 = 36 buttons.
Use two hands with 2 units and you have 40 Axis 72 button input.
Where else can you adjust 10 pots simultaneously in realtime, normally it is 2.
With the addition of a foot similar controller, with 5 axis + 11 buttons at the side this gives a total of :
25 simultaneous axis input + 83 button inputs.
Just looking for feedback really, as I say it is in development but need your thoughts on the usefulness of such a device ??

"a "vintage" sampler mode plugin for Drumrack that emulates the sound of the SP1200 (Filter, 12 Bit & Pitch Algoritm) and a Drumrack Controller with Step Seq and a xy pad (padKontrol, NI Maschine)....Please
