Is complex warp mode as good as pitch mode for DJ's

Post by anirog » Thu Sep 24, 2009 11:47 am

As a dj I often use the complex warp mode in Live 7, but when I use complex warp mode on any clip Live crashes.

I read on another post that complex warp in Live 7 is incompatible with snow leopard :(

Is pitch warp as good as complex warp for DJ'ing?

Thanks

You will get actually get better sound quality with Re-Pitch, but the pitch changes. No artifacts though.

no, complex (and complex pro on 8 ) degrade signal quality. Repitch has the best sound quality of all the warping options. Personally I use that for the majority of things, unless it causes keys to clash, then I might use complex or any of the other modes depending on what the song sounds like

if you are using complex you might want to check out josh von's method of restoring sound quality

Go for Re-Pitch!

Little tip!

"Dont forget to set the sequenzer tempo to the actually tempo of the file first!" then you will have a real turntable feeling...;)

From what I remember it included a Vintage Warmer and exciter, BBE I think, on you master bus. It's a bandaid solution to a problem that can be avoided.

Which mode sounds better to your ears?

Go with that one.

I use Re-Pitch to warp nearly all my tunes. I have a couple of tunes that I've warped with Complex simply b/c Re-Pitch makes the vocals contained therein sound too far off from the original sounds.

Same.

dont know exactly how they all differ but repitch wont work with alot of what I do because its not steady I.E. live musicians arent 100% and i cant have random pitch fluctuations. Yrs ago as a DJ i fell in love with the numark TTX because you could change tempo without the pitch, first real appearance of that ability, no way im going back to the chipmunk days.

Hi,
can you develop in what it has changed your life on Live?
Thanks, I'll give it a try too.

So far I've used complex pro for songs. I can note sometimes some sound modifications but I guess it's a normal result if I don't play the track at its original tempo.

complex pro changes the sound even at the original tempo. if you're not changing tempo you don't want to use it.
