Is this correct? Recording COPIES the MIDI data to a track?

I was under the impression that when you "recorded" an arrangement of sound and MIDI clips and you then modified a MIDI clip, this would be reflected in the arrangement. However, it seems I was wrong...
Can I change this some way? Becuase of not, Lives MIDI sequencing becomes just the same crap as all other tape recorder style sequencers. Why is it so bloody hard for people to make a real-time pattern-based MIDI sequencer!?
I wish Reason did audio recording. Sigh.

Why is it so bloody hard for people to learn the basics of their craft and tools before complaining that some bit "doesn't do X"?
I wish people would read manuals and learn what the hell they are talking about before jumping to innaccurate conclusions ... sigh.
(end sarcasm here)

IF you record MIDI information ... then it's editable/changeable. Whatever is controlled or played by that MIDI track changes accordingly.
IF you record AUDIO, then it is much less so, although LIVE gives better tools for making LIVE changes to AUDIO than just about anything else.[/i]

Thanks. That was both rude and unhelpful.
My question, which you did not answer, is if I can change this behavior.
And if your answer to this is gonna be rude again, then don't bother, OK?
Well, if it does do X, tell me how. If it doesn't, then I think I have the full right to complain. Why is it so bloody hard for people to learn the basics of their craft and tools before complaining that some bit "doesn't do X"?
Of course it is. The problem is still tjan an arrangement is a COPY of the MIDI data in a clip, so that if I change the clip, this is not reflected in the arrangement.IF you record MIDI information ... then it's editable/changeable.

a clip in session with envelopes is an entity unto itself
when you play it in session it loops and does what youve made those envelopes do
when you press record, whatever is playing in session records into the arranger
if what you played is clips with clip envelopes they still do whatever youve programmed them to do
BUT (and this is the clincher)
the clip that you have in the arranger now is NOT the same clip
it looks the same, and sounds the same but it is a different entity
if you change the original in session, the new one in arrange is not affected
UNLESS
you replace it with something else
that can mean, recording over it with a different clip
or changing the things the envelopes are doing
make sense?

I can live with this, however. I think. It's still better than a purely linear sequencer, which is the alternative...
youre still not getting it then.
