LIVE for non-electronic, non-improvisational, trad. pop?

if you have any experience doing this kind of set-up, I would greatly appreciate your input, experiences, tricks, tips, etc. I get the feeling that I'd be pushing the limits of the MIDI mapping feature, processing, etc.

Hello. I am a singer-songwriter who happens to write songs with lush arrangements. I've done shows with large groups of musicians ... strings, horns, a rock band section, etc, but am about to do a tour by myself. People have suggested using backing tracks, but I don't enjoy it. Which is where LIVE comes in ....

I would like to set-up the following. Live on a rackmount PC with a good sound card. My Rhodes plugged into a mic-pre, into the card and into Live. A MIDI controller playing some sort of VST with string sounds within LIVE. My Guitar plugged into a Line 6 rackmount amp simulator into Live. Bass ... the same. Drum Pad controlling a VST within LIVE.

I am basically imagining recording sections of the song on the fly. For example ... I would start out by getting a loop in (playing the drum pad). Play the first verse and chorus on the Rhodes. Play guitar on the second verse (along with the Rhodes part, triggered by Midi controller). ... Anyway, you get the idea. Would this be a huge mess? Is Live more for groove based electronic music?

Live is just a blank canvas. You can record whatever you want. I've done techno sets in live, and I've recorded singer-songwriters in Live. It's all what you make of it.

Live is a bit click-centric, though. It's really not made for music that doesn't stick to BPM.

You can record anything with Live...I have done a session of recording voice over for a documentary with Live before.
