Firewire Audio Interface and External Sync

Hello Folks;

I'm running OSX 10.5.8 on a MacBook Pro w/ 4gigs ram and a 2.4 ghz Core 2 duo, Ableton 7.0.16.

My signal path is: Bass Guitar -> Konnekt 24D (firewire interface) -> laptop/Ableton.

I've found that latency is much improved if I select "External Sync" from the Options menu, where the Konnekt 24D is serving as the syncronization master. However, I am unable to record/playback/stop clips/scenes because, if I understand correctly, Ableton is in slave mode.

When externally synchronizing, how do I enable record/playback/stop?
