They are in my eyes more 'damaging' then anything else, i am basically against everything that takes you away from training and believing your ears.

Ideally, yes, but our ears are only good for what we, subjectively, can hear. Given the higher potential of hearing loss these days, I will presumptuously allege that a great percentage of music makers today have hearing loss in various frequencies. I always use a spectrum analyzer in conjunction with my ears.
Hearing loss from noise damage is becoming more prevalent in the 3k-6k range which is in the upper range but not drastically so. So, use the spectrum because I'll be willing to bet you're a mo-fo with a deaf-wish

you use the logarithmic scale because that's how our ears hear sound. that's why we use the dB scale in audio.


3k to 6k is the upper range? what do you call 10k to 20k?

I mis-wrote, forgive me---it is the mid-range of our hearing, but nonetheless, it's not a range we should be expecting hearing damage. So, our ears are generally becoming less reliable, which is not a good thing.

wtf u knuckle? u just didnt get the point, thats why i wasnt serious. because logarithmic is NOT, as u said, prefered by most people, its prefered by everyone! everything related to tunes and tuning etc u just can do with a logarithmic scale. BUT:

the upper frequencies (lets say 5000-20000) or general a linear scale is pretty important at noise sounds (u cant colour them properly at a log scale) and at drum cymbal timbres. and thats where spectrum fails. also spectrum is just 2-dimensional ans does not include time in spectral analysis, so its something completely different anyway. im sure u dont know the foobar spectrum analyser, because then u'd know what i mean and dont clevershite around here on your way to 18k.

I disagree with your point on linear being better for some frequency ranges but I'll give it a try sometime. I usually use spectrum for low end muddiness between kick/bass/guitar, not for high end stuff.
