+1 Amen. Last night was a real pita for me, totally different from the night before. The headliners were prima donna's who required constant attention. By the time they went on, they were both so drunk/coked up that I spent the whole night running around trying to keep them from blowing up the sound system.

And if I have to hear that DJM800 roll effect one more time....

Oh well, hopefully Sunday's park performances are better.

you must be out of your goddamn mind
I can tell you feel very strongly about this subject. Perhaps we could argue about it back and forth for several pages and others could weigh in on one side or the other. That sort of thing always makes for some engaging conversation. I'm going to have to insist that you use proper punctuation and everything next time though. I'm a stickler for that sort of thing.

Are you sure? Perhaps we could discuss the issue over tea then. I enjoy a lively debate over tea and crumpets myself.

I've tried the open minded approach a couple times in the last year or so at festivals that I knew very few of the artists and for the most part left disappointed. Oddly I ended up liking the first few opener acts, the ones that most people miss because nobody shows up that early, and as the day progresses I find myself deeper and deeper in meh.
fair enough.

i also have to admit that i experience more meh than wow, names or not, but i think my problem is that i played for now over 20 years myself, that makes it somehow really hard to be truly blown away by a performace, but i don't like it, i wish often i could forget all i know about dj-ing and go somewhere with a none pre occupied mind.
If I get blown away by a performance, it's most often that the performers are really good, and entertaining, and have soul. Happened twice this year: First was a concerto of "The publicist" with singer Ian Svenonious, and the second occasion was two nights ago, Patrick Wolf.

In both cases it was a singer that was giving everything to the audience, including, posing, breaking down, even being ridiculous with gestures and soulfulness.

If I want to enjoy listenig to music I find concert-venues more and more inappropriate. Bad sound, people talking too loud during the songs, etc.

And unfortunately a lot of todays music sounds good when recorded, but not so good when performed live.

uff, yeah. i agree.

actually comes to the point discussed in the 'how to use the spectrum analyzer'
lots of people don't have any experience nor a feel for what is needed in music, they go after perfect sience, numbers, books, etc.
i mean you can read here some folks using headphones for mixing, checking a mix to make sure it sounds good on iPods, so we do not have to be surprised it sounds rubbish on a venue PA.

but whatever, i agree with you!
