I appreciate all the posts...the good the bad the ugly...it all helps. I picked up a few tips and got in the right direction. For now I will run the latest version of Virtual DJ for standard "DJ" gigs (wedding receptions, parties...etc.) And I think we will bring "Live" on a seperate system with the Axiom and APC 40. We are making up some decent live sets with 2 or 3 songs and beats and sounds that can all be mixed.

I agree with the point earlier: Live was never intended as a DJ tool. A "live remix tool", yes, but not a straight DJ application.
As mentioned before, people obviously experimented Live for DJ-ing, but it isn't built specifically for that.
I'd suggest using Traktor or Deckadance... Or stick with Virtual DJ, if it does the job you need.

Sorry, but i think the warp feature in live 8 rocks like hell!? I can warp my tracks in no time and all perfectly warped.....One thing that some people do overlook is to set the sequenzer tempo to match the file you want to warp before actually setting the warp markers! That way you could use "Repitch" and Viola.......its like playing with vinyl.......

Interesting...how do you set the sequencer? Give me the steps and I will try it your way. Thanks.xzusa8ky wrote:Sorry, but i think the warp feature in live 8 rocks like hell!? to switch between clips quickly...1 drum loop to another for examplecacti wrote:SubFunk wrote:The thing with live is that it has never ever been 'designed' for DJ-ing, someone once explored that there is a way to 'dj' with it, however. the word was spread around and then ableton implemented that in their marketing but never into the product itself (adjusting all the necessary things for better DJ possibilities)
why would they have and A and B selection and a cross fader if it wasn't at least a little meant for DJing?

however, use what you want, whatever works for someone he should use, it's only a tool, nothing else, that is why your comment is so hilarious.
thanks for the entertainment.

+1, some people really do put two tracks into live, sync them up and call it dj-ing, i agree, it's fuckin hilarious!

I tried this once, but I had trouble assigning midi to decadance parameters. Some worked ok, others didnt. Are you using this?cacti wrote:Deckadance is like traktor but you can use it in a host program like Ableton.

I just warped the two songs mentioned by the original poster and had them beatmatched in about 15 seconds. I am slow cause I mostly use live for producing and live looping an acoustic guitar and vocals. The two tracks do go well together and Live 8 warping is a cakewalk. I love Live 8.

Yeah, it's really not as hard as the OP makes it out to be. Set the first marker, listen to the track, adjust the last marker, and then tweak as needed.Fizmarble wrote:I just warped the two songs mentioned by the original poster and had them beatmatched in about 15 seconds. Just gotta practice... Like anything else.

Re: Beatmatching and beat mixing is exhausting with Live...WHY?
actually, finally gotting around to understand how to do it, i don't even need to prelisten for current digital produced and distributed tracks. set the warpmarker on the first transient clear to the first real beat, say constant tempo, maybe adjust the tempo to exact 128, or 132 bpm (depends on the track. most result in something like 128.08 or so). then go to the last visible beat, take the transient (don't create a warpmarker!) and drag it to fit exactly to the place it should be.
this is the same workflow i had for beatgridding in traktor, except adjusting the last transient to the exact rythm.
this can be done without listening to the track, ever. for making sure, i just check some random beats in the track if they fit as well.
for non-digital produced digital distributed tracks, maybe some inbetween markers have to be set and adjusted, but the main workflow stays.
it's actually, for the first time ever, for me, easy to do it. which is impressive, now that i use live for 1.5 years i "got it"..
