Nice one Chapelier Fou. I really like the songs of Matt Elliott so I'll sure lean an ear to yourspace.

Bien joué Mad Hatter. J'aime beaucoup les chansons de Matt Elliott (comme son travail dans TEF d'ailleurs) alors je vais tendre une oreille.

"This Immortal Coil" is a remix project, a tribute to COIL (Jhon Balance & Peter Christopherson) created by a bunch of French artists (incl. Yann Tiersen), who did remix Coil tracks. Most of the artists didn't know Coil before the project. So this is kind of a "Nouvelle Vague" approach for industrial music. Grab a bunch of talented artists and let them remix COIL tracks. Apparently the album is called "This Immortal Coil" because the producer of that project loved the band "This Immortal Coil" on 4AD - back in the days the band "This Mortal Coil" covered most of their songs, e.g. "Come Here My Love," from the Van Morrison album "Veedon Fleece", "Drugs," from the Talking Heads album "Fear of Music" or "Morning Glory," from the Tim Buckley album "Dream Letter.

I was listening to both bands back in the days. Thy were part of two very different scenes. 4AD with artists Cocteau Twins, Wolfgang Press, Pixies, This Mortal Coil and Neville Brody who did most of the covers. Their music was pretty "commercial" but also experimental, kinda hip.

Coil is part of the Death in June, Current 93, Whitehouse, TG crowd. They do heavy industrial music, from pure noise to actually well written songs. One of their best albums "Horse Rotorvator" is still one of my favorites.

So what I actually want to say is: Both bands don't have traditionally anything in common. The French guy who is in charge of the Coil remix project "This Immortal Coil" gained inspiration by the band "This Immortal Coil" because they did a bunch of remixes in the mid 80s. He just thought it would be a great idea to mix both up. From an historical persepective it feels a bit strange to me, but apparently it is a great marketing gag - we are talking about it in this forum ...

Hope that helps to clarify things

No, there is no relation. Excepted the fact that it is a band constitued by artists coming from different horizons, and making covers.
