Foot Switch For Looper

Post by enomusic » Wed Sep 23, 2009 1:56 am

Hello everyone, I'm trying to control the Looper effect in Live via foot switch connected to my APC40 to Loop some electric guitars. I bought this M-AUDIO SP-1 Sustain Pedal (I called AKAI tech support about this and they said that any sustain pedal would work... :? ) So I tried mapping the pedal to control the Looper effect but it will not MIDI MAP it for whatever reason. Any idea which pedal to buy that will actually work for sure?

Thanks

Hi, thanks for the reply. I called AKAI again to ask them the same thing again... this time the tech seemed to know more that the first one I talked to; he said that I needed a Non-latching/Momentary foot switch. apparently not all sustain pedals can be used to control LOOPER inside Live. The M-AUDIO sustain pedal I bought worked for other functions but not to MIDI MAP LOOPER. So I did some research and I decided to buy the Boss FS-5U http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... oductId=57 Be aware FS-5U (U stands for Unlatch), I just bought it today so I will go home and try it.. I will let you know if it works.

Take care.

I just click on MIDI MAP then midi mapping gets engaged, then I just select the Looper's actuator button (For punching in and out) and still... when I step on the foot switch.. I see on the Midi indicator that data is being transmitted from the foot switch to Live but for some reason I'm not able to MIDI MAP the foot switch to actuator button on the Lopper plug in. I mean I've seen videos of someone doing it and it really isn't that complicated but I can't get it to work for whatever reason.
Here is a video that clearly shows what I want to do:

I've followed every step in the same way but it just won't MIDI MAP to what I need it to MIDI MAP to.

HELP!!!!!!

Okay.. finally was able to get it to work.. I was missing a step (Which by the way was not mentioned on the you tube Ableton clinic for whatever reason) All I had to do was to activate the REMOTE button of the input midi port of the APC -> Live preferences -> midi/sync. and vuala!! worked like a charm!!

Please let me know if anyone has any questions.

I've been using the BOSS FS-6 with the APC. It gives me two switches to take advantage of the two ports on the APC.

What functions do you assign to both foot switches for example?

I've really been trying to simplify the amount of hardware I bring out to performances. One pedal is for the looper effect, the other is launch the next scene. I've created a secondary version of my set that is very linear. It's limiting, but when you can only carry-on two bags ( a saxophone and a backpack ), I'm alright with playing in a somewhat linear fashion.

If I want more improvisation, I'll bring out my FCB1010 for recording in clipslots, but as I refine my pieces, the improvisational focus is more on my sax playing, and less on how much I'm effing with clips.

A little over-share, but the APC40 has two pedal inputs... so my little wormybrain says "USE THEM!"
