'sync' the MUTE and SOLO buttons to the beat ??

Post by liveuser123 » Sun Feb 20, 2005 8:47 am

newbie here !
i'm just wondering if there is really no possibility to 'sync' the MUTE and SOLO buttons to the beat ?
for example :
i want to play a vocal track and a corresponding synth track solo for EXACTLY 1 bar . if i have to hit the SOLO buttons manually it is nearly impossible to do this 'in sync' to the music. is there a way to do this like you can trigger clips to play and stop ??
when i hit solo again (to stop the clips to play solo) the other tracks should continue at there position where they would be WITHOUT hitting solo !

i need the same possibility with the MUTE buttons.
for example i want to mute the synth pad for maybe 1 or 2 bars and then let it come in again.
if i do this with the stop and play function for the synth pad it starts again from the beginning but it should play from the position where it would be without muting it.

the behaviour should be EXACTLY like i hit manually SOLO or MUTE for 1 or 2 bars !!!

i checked all the different LAUNCH MODES but nothing works that way.

i don't know before my live performance WHEN i want to do that so it is not possible to prepare some special scenes or something.

is there really no way to do this ?
if so that is really strange to me because it's hard for me to imagine that nobody needs this feature ??

it would indeed be a nice feature to have mute/solo react to the quantization settings. but, yeah... we don't have it yet, if ever.

so, i guess, in your situation where there's no way to prepare before a set, the only thing you can do is practice the 'insert scene and copy clip(s) routine'. it can be done real quick, especially if you got something like the belkin nostromo to make macros in Live. Live is a 'sequencing instrument', you need to master it, like any other musical instrument :)

a solution for the mute clip/kicking in again at the 'prolongued position' could be to play around with legato and a copy of the original with volume set to 0dB. but it's nothing more than a clunky workaround.

hi borg !
thanks for you reply !
i will check your ideas out :-)

i don't know if this is already on the 'wish list' for live ?
maybe they will bring us this feature in a future update ??

it is still a bit strange to me that that this is missing as live wants to be a 'performance' tool and FOR ME this is a feature that is not 'something special that nobody needs' ;-)

seems almost like a huge oversite. loop based music is all about breaks and what not. i just want one loop to remain without having to shut off all the others (without creating a new scene).

WHY!!

Oh well. I've gotten pretty adept at shutting off all the loops before the beat.

what you can do is set a channel whose source is the channel you want to solo. have a trigger for scene down (go to an empty scene), record a bar of the channel then activate that scene. This is obviously retardedly clumsy and no easier than turning everyting off unless of course you have TONS of loops and if you want to have that loop by itself.
I can do it myself!
