I have the Lead 3 and while I don't use it as a controller, the LED encoders should make it superior to the others in that role. It's a wonderful synth with a very intuitive interface and some wicked oscillator modulation features. Where it falls flat is its anemic filter section- sounds that rely on "analog" filter character are definitely not its thing. But it does a lot of other things very well (percussion and FM sounds in particular) and it's really fun to tweak. So except for the lame filters I love it.

I have both the Nord Lead 1 as well as a Blofeld. Can't really say I have a preference over other Nord versions since I've only played with a NL2 when it first came out and didn't feel the need to upgrade to it. I've owned the original NL since around 1996 or 97. Love the sound but wouldn't have it as my only synth. The jury is still out on the Blofeld but I picked it up cheap so it's neat to have around to tinker with. That's just my 2 cents... you'll have to figure out your needs what suits your sense of aesthetic as it relates to your own music.

NL3 is probably the best synth Clavia ever made, too expensive to make =discontinued, if you have chance to get good one it is classic. NL1 has poor keys, no AF, just the best look-slanted corners, if getting it at all look for one with expansion board.
So about getting NL the order is reversed 3,2,1. As controller the G2 would be much better then any NL.

I've never played a Lead 1 or 2 (only the 3) so I can't compare. But Ironically my other synth is a Blofeld and while I've only had it a few weeks, I like it a lot so far. It sounds great and is quick & easy to program. It certainly has limitations, but for the price it's very impressive.

i have a G2 and i started trying to build a patch to controle live with.
problem was i got lost in the sequencer section and ended up using it to control my nova and ion..
way to much fun..
i have heard that there is a live controller patch on the electro-music forum in the nord section that some one made to control a live 6 template...
i love my G2..
i could sell any others of my hardware if it got that dab, but i would use my fingernails for food and drink my own peepee before i sell my G2.
that shit is so versatile..
i sat down the other night and built a cool and fun FM/DX synth...
its also great as a guitar multi FX....

i should stop.
