APC40 + Laptop Flight Case?
Re: APC40 + Laptop Flight Case?
awesome man, I am in the exact same situation here, my DJ partner is also a drummer and weve been wanting an easy portable case like that to carry around and set up with his drumkit too. Been hard to find something that would fit right where I could put the laptop IN FRONT of the APC rather than off to the side and keep it relatively small. And also something that I could keep it hooked up so its ready to go in 5 minutes like you said. Just bring the case and a small stand into the club and plug right into the DJ mixer and youre good to go, before the computer even finishes booting up!

Re: APC40 + Laptop Flight Case?
Glad I could help.
I brought the APC to guitar center and tried a bunch of different cases and was not too happy. I was actually leaving the store, but I saw that thing and was like hmmmmmm.........
It really is pretty sweet to roll up to the rehearsal space, unfold a small table, make a few connections and that's it. And you're right, by the time I get the laptop on there and turn it on, just a couple switches and I'm usually setup before Ableton is open.
Let me know how it works out for you when the case comes in.

Cool, I went to Guitar Center too and had the same experience. Considered building my own but just dont really ahve the time or tools or area to it. I will report back once I get it, should be mid to late this week. Really happy to see your post man, we definitely are using the pretty much exact same setup. I have a small Native Instruments card that will fit nicely underneat the laptop stand too but also use a TONEPORT UX8 for plugging in the drums plus mics for us both and my guitar and bass for a live PA show but I have it in another rack case to carry alond with and will be just as easy to set underneath or beside this case and only a difference of 1 USB cable, still just a 2-out to the DJ mixer or whatever setup the club/bar has. Easy and no drama and complete control over all the levels and effects!
Went and grabbed a laptop stand today as well. Do you have yours bolted down to the case so it doesnt slide around when you are carting it around?
Hey where do you live, you brought it to any club gigs or anything? Im in Los Angeles myself.

Haha, yeah were using nearly identical setups for sure. I've even been planning to get the ux8 soon!
Haven't mounted the laptop stand down yet, but I'm going to get it sorted this week.
It's been pretty much fine so far, wheeling it around knocks a few things around, but not that bad. That's why I hadn't bothered securing everything yet. Ill let you know what I end up using, material wise.

Hey man, so I got the case and got it all set up and secured. I LOVE it!! Its perfect! I jsut travel with it and a keyboard stand and Im good. Set it up in my studio and played a nearly 4 hour set this last weekend with it.
Fits in nicely with room uner the laptop stand for a power strip and my soundcard. Not sure how to mount my soundcard yet though as it has inputs on both sides that I use, but the rest is pretty secured just with the foam. I duct taped the laptop stand to an old book to give it a bit of height and weight and then the foam keeps it from sliding. And the APC is the same, just a book under the front to lift it up so the edge of the case doesnt get in the way of the sliders. And the back rests on top of one of the dividers that came with it. Then I put a piece of foam on the top that presss down when I put the lid on it which secures the APC.
I do have ONE complaint though, it STINKS! It has a weird chemical smell form the lining and its taking forEVER to fade away. I know it will eventually so Im not too worried about it but it was stinking up my whole studio last weekend. Was yours the same way at first?
Here's some pics of mine.

Re: APC40 + Laptop Flight Case?
Kinda funny/strange seeing an identical rig! Glad it worked for you.
The chemical smell is pretty bogus, and it is worse when the case has been in the heat for awhile. I'm sure it will go away, it's definitely less of a dropkick to the face now compared to when I first got it.
I found the perfect solution for my soundcard (Apogee Duet). I use a case that was originally for an Oktava MK-012 small condenser mic, it fits tightly in the case and stays secure just by luck of the measurements.
That keeps the Duet in there, secure with padding when not in use, and doubles as a riser to set the Duet on when I'm actually using it. Might not work for your setup, but it's an idea.
Now we'll just see how long this thing holds up.
Peace

OMG that is exactly what I'm Looking for too! I wanted something big enough so I could fit everything in there plugged in and ready to go! Thanks so much for sharing! I will get in and post some pics. I even already have the elevator stand! I was thinking I would have to spend 3-$400 from the looks of it on musicians friend.
Good find!
