I am foremost a scotch whisky guy. (there is this wicked whisky festival once a year here in berlin koepenick called 'whisky herbst' yum!) but love good beers (preferably czech ones) and ales from small breweries as well, actually the only thing i am not very keene on is vodka or anything sweet, except as a little desert.

What do you usually drink?

I find that most big name beers are pretty bland; I find the flavor of Bud, Labatts, Heinekin, etc, etc, all pretty bland (yes, there is a time and place though).

My recommendations for enjoying beer:
1. Avoid cans, bottles at home and go for the best beers on tap at the bar
2. Drink it ice cold. Our neighbors across the pond prefer it warmer, me - not so much. It also changes the flavor and texture to a degree.
3. Experiment with different flavors from smaller brewers. This part is my favorite - any time I go to the bar when it's not crowded, I chop it up with the bartenders, ask what they like, sample some beers and try to try as many new beers as I can.

If you don't go to bars - try some bottled beers Ales (Newcastle, Old Speckled Hen,etc), try darker beers (Negra Modelo, La Bohemia, etc), try stouts, dubbelbocks, try Hefeweizens, etc, there is a ton of variety of flavor.
1. Big plus 1
2. Wrong, if you're drinking ales, you're not supposed to have them ice cold, or chilled at all as the beer loses flavour rather than changes it. Lagers though, yeah, cold, only ever have them warm the morning after a house party
3. Even bigger plus 1

Nukeys are fucking wrong though and should only be drank when there's nothing else going.

Never found beer to make me sleepy though, sometimes a lot of pisses, but that all depends and they definitely don't taste like piss! Cheap cider does though. And real ale for beardy types? I'm only 22 and don't have a beard!

In April there was a CAMRA real ale festival on a pub in the backroads of Kentish Town that was like your aunt's conservatory with framed pencil drawings of sparrows on the wall and doilies etc

David Mitchell (Mitchell and Webb) was in there doing the same!

So you can have your watery, gassy hopless piss you utter heathen! ;-)
I've trimmed your post to leave but the important part about wierdy beardy real ale drinkers.

To summarise.

1. Beardy wierdy
2. Pipe smoker
3. Cap wearer
4. CAMRA
5. Auntie's Sparrows and doilies
6. David Mitchell
7. Unjustified hatred for lager drinkers.

Classic sayings at the CAMRA outing:

'I'll have a pint of Theakstons Old Bollock Twanger please, and do you have any pork scratchings?'
'That's a nice fire you've got going there'
'Is Jim in tonight?'
'We had one of them lager drinkers in yesterday...'
'All set for fishing tomorrow then Jed?'
'Is it darts every Tuesday? I thought Tuesday was quiz night.'
'Have we been here before? I think I recall the Bishop's Finger, hold on I'll check my CAMRA stamp card'
'I'll have a pint of ESB and a scotch egg, barkeep.'
'I bet they keep that in a Firkin, are you filtering with muslin or a gauze?'

:D

Sage....you could deffo get a beard on the go.

1. I will +1 our +1s
2. I know it's wrong, and I agree, it does change the flavor - it's a bit more suitable for me cold. I am not sure how much of that is personal or cultural. In general in America people don't drink room temperature drinks.
3. +1 again. I travel a lot, this is my way of relaxing and passing the time in cities where I am flying solo.
