EQ Eight Upgrade! with analyzer

Post by dojostudio » Wed Oct 07, 2009 10:22 pm

How NICE it would be if the SPECTRUM (Analyzer) was actually within the EQ Eight Background (Just like the Channel EQ in Logic when 'analysis' is turned on)!

yeaa +1

Ive heard a few groans about EQ8, nothing Im experienced enough to know about, but from the stuff Ive heard EQ8 could do with an overhaul and adding an anylzer to it would be the perfect addition.

Insert a spectrum before it in the chain is ok for me, but this may sound old school.

i often have some spectrum in front, and after the eq, to analyze exactly what it affects.

but having an in-and-out-spectrum displayed directly onto the eq would be great, of course. a real space saver, espencially on the laptop screen. with 1280 pixels width, there's only so much eq and spectrums beside each other (.. guess how much :))

Exactly. 1 unit instead of 3 on a 13" macbook would be greatly appreciated!!
EG: 3 units take up just over the width of the screen, even without the info box up. 1 unit would allow you to monitor/tweak other effects also without having to scroll etc.

useless.. the spectrum plug is one of the by far most professional in life ...just enable the fulscreen mode and tweek your eq as desired..no reason to make the plug fatter than necessary.

It wouldn't make the spectrum plugin fatter if there was togglable EQ8 on top of it. Just more useful...

I think the idea is to upgrade EQ8 with a version of Spectrum.
3 lines.
Your Main 8 point adjustable EQ Curve, 1 line showing frequency analysis Pre-EQ, 1 line showing frequency analysis Post-EQ; separate colors; all overlayed on one graph.
Keeping spectrum as its own sole unit also.

A VERY rudimentary example:
Image
Red being pre EQ
Orange being the EQ itself
Yellow being Post EQ
etccc
[obviously colors would be customizable depending on the color theme chosen etc]

ok..looks good.. and when you can swith it off i dont mind...but i allways stack the ableton eqs ...
so wouldnt help me...

and in reality.. you cant eq to such a spectrum..its just to find problems beyond listening borders.. look at some of the best sounding old jazz records in the world und you will find anything but a straight line... that only happens in over loaded and over compressed modern productions...

freq spikes that hurt yozr ear or the cutting needle sometimes only popo out a very little on the graph.. just a tool is a rough prientation at best... actually misleading the user..you should adjust filters by ear and not by the eyes

i always hear that "by ear" stuff, and think it's nonsense. i'm learning, and i'm learning much thanks to live. to have a good learning experience, i need to visually see how i affect stuff, and map this to what i hear. sometimes the visual change is massive, and the audible one subtle, sometimes the other way round. in both cases, i learn much to understand stuff, and train my ears to hear more details.

and having it integrated would let me visualize and adjust stuff without having to look at 3 places and always retarget which frequency i look at on each object. it would make live much more simple.

i do agree that in the end, the ear matters. but espencially for beginners, the ears are something very missleading, and having both audible and visual response and interface helps to understand stuff much more. so stop that "it's missleading" stuff.

picture looks great. has no extra buttons yet for the specs, but still it's great. i don't think max4live could handle that? would be interesting.. an own control built with this maybe?

spectrum included or not is not so important for me.. but make it better sounding, more surgical. I can´t actually tell in what it´s lacking, but it could be better.. anything can be better : )
