Live session edition
I have been thinking about this a bit
Playing with Logic a bit and I really like the idea of being able to integrate logic and live together better
Logic has many years ahead of Live in a lot of ways as far as linear arranging goes, and I would love to see the session view developed a lot further with Live more so than the arranger
if the situation with session automation is that they can't do anything about it because of the relative/absolute thing between session/arrange then I would happily drop ableton's arrange view altogether to have an enourmously flexible session view combined with Logic's arranger
a "Live Session" edition of Live that was just session view and half the price

Re: Live session edition
not a bad idea at all, i almost exclusively use session view. Wouldve been perfect to bundle with the APC40 instead of the generic lite version it comes with.
Re: Live session edition
Conversely I love the way it is because I compose in Session View and refine in Arrangement.
However how would you capture a Session View improvisation out of Live?

and with many other advanced aspects of performing, such as midi / audio 'scanning' for the case a cable pops out and you do not need to restart live... during a show, etc, etc,

i thought about this a while ago when live sort dismissed all the dj requests (dual waveform etc) . like what if there was a live that was like a "super session" view.
+1
great idea. while we're at it, can we have logics loop browser also?

Re: Live session edition
just a general worked over browser would do it for me.madcre8r wrote:i thought about this a while ago when live sort dismissed all the dj requests (dual waveform etc) . like what if there was a live that was like a "super session" view.

and again a plus a trillion to a hardcore performance orientated session only edition. (nudge per track, etc, etc, etc i can think of a dozen... and no bloated DAW stuff)

not at all, we speak about a performance session ONLY version... no arrangement view, nothing.Pasha wrote:Conversely I love the way it is because I compose in Session View and refine in Arrangement.

recoding your 'performance' you always still can like Traktor (if they implement it) or via soundflower, etc.
it's just that since the last few versions a lot of DAW stuff was introduced, but for my taste a lot of performance important issues have been not taken care of... and ableton is to me about performance, not DAW.
Traktor in the meantime starts to move slowly but surely closer to the basic idea of ableton then ableton themselfs... i feel. (i mean it more in terms of philosophy / way of focused use for a stage, of course the session view is the session view!

GAFM ***Re: Live session edition
to clarify further... i mean really not the comparison of Traktor vs Ableton, but the pure 'philosophy' and technical implementation for a stage use.
it can't be that ableton claims to be a performance instrument and introduces all sorts of 'classic DAW functions' over time
and then you go onto a stage and you by accident pull out a cable (like this is something unusual to happen in a real world scenario in a busy DJ booth) and you need to restart your application to be able to 're-read' your soundcard or controller... in Traktor you stick it back in and it takes approx. 3 seconds and he reads it and you continue...
or telling it's difficult to design, physically, not electro technically, periphery products for the use in DJ booths, that are easy to place and setup, etc...
oi, i gonna get probably into trouble for that one

Re: Live session edition
Although I hear what you guys are saying about ultra session view, I use session and arrange view equally and these days am happy to have the "DAW" features in Live.
I love the integration of the two ways of working and wouldn't like to have to go to another app to do my arrange stuff/editing.
Yeh, I know that Logic or Nuendo or whatever might have a few more DAW features than Live, but I prefer to stick with one application, (to repeat myself).
Dunno about Logic but I recently went to a studio that uses Nuendo, and it looked dull to use.
My $.02

no one wants to take away the now existing features... but it would be good the way things developed to have a performance and a studio version...chris vine wrote:Although I hear what you guys are saying about ultra session view, I use session and arrange view equally and these days am happy to have the "DAW" features in Live.

i think it will come eventually, otherwise live will get to bloated and it will have to deal with all the problems others do already, like to much stuff going on in the GUI to manage all the functions, etc.
still the idea of Live's session combined with Logic's arrange for the studio to create and mix music, yum... that sounds great!
and then being able to 'de-couple' the session only for a performance on stage... even more yum.
and for me comes on top of that thru... that i am pissed off with the development from there initial idea...
introducing DAW functions before performance 'essentials' like i mentioned, is just a very wrong order of priorities for LIVE, to me!

i think live is the session view, this is where the fun is, this is where it is really special... (for the main part, that is!)
'arrangement views' are around a hell lot of way, way better ones already...

But this would mean that your new Live Session edition would evolve independently of "traditional" Live, and by definition wouldn't be backwards compatible (otherwise, why bother splitting it). Personally, I only use Live for both live performance and production, and I'd rather see Ableton's limited resources concentrate on both aspects rather than be stretched too far in one direction (either way).alex.the.forge wrote:I have been thinking about this a bit

Re: Live session edition
Maybe, but firstly, I'd rather stay with the workflow of something I've invested my time in learning and not be forced to learn something new. And secondly, how much does Logic cost? More than the €175 (the "half" of Live), right?SubFunk wrote:'arrangement views' are around a hell lot of way, way better ones already...
