I didn't incline that I want ultra sterility, in fact, I have never been fond of ultra clean sound. You didn't get my point and you keep saying that I should turn my attention to Harrison Mixbuss

I said I don't want the DAW to change the sound on the mix bus for me automatically, whatever fancy algorithm is in use! I know exactly what I am doing and I can get the "warm" result when I want _without always being obliged_ to use it when mixing !

I got the Mixbus, and think it sounds great. The only plugs I have to compare it, though, are PSP squad EQ's, Vintage Warmer 2, and Sonsalksis SV 517 eq and compressor.
For $80, I think it's a great addition to a virtual studio, even though I don't use the Ardour side of things.

just a quick rundown on this baby:
had it for 2 nites so far and i've spent the first one figuring things out and see what are its limitations.
second nite, i've imported 4 Bounces from a trk i'm mixing in Logic 8 and played with routing and sound quality.
the routing took a minute to figure out since you have to go through Jack [at least for what i was doing]to get a nice flow going. once i've figured that out i was up and running in no time. and i have 2 Allen&Heath mixers at home, one small 12CH and large console 24CH, which are made to be mixed and remixed in different configuration so working in Mixbus - a digital console - was comfortable with me.
i like its simplicity in layout and i think it will be beneficial to me in the future-i plan on running bounced stems from other projects and do the final mix in Mixbus.
so far everything i've ran through Mixbus sounds good- how good i couldn't tell ya cause i didn't have enough time with this daw. the eqs are great [somebody here posted they're the same as the UAD Eq but i'm pretty sure that's not true] and used in conjunction with the compressor/limiter/level [which btw, they do a nice job] i believe it's plenty to keep every track sounding good but if not you can insert AU plugs before and after the channel strip.
and speaking of channel strip, isn't it nice to have a simple clean layout you can easily get used to and feel comfortable looking at?i do but maybe it's just because i like working with analog consoles.....
now, about the midi...you have to get MIDIPatch installed and that's how you get your controller mapped out to Mixbus. it was simple and straight forward and Mixbus makes it easy to setup templates that you can save for different projects. midi control was my first question when i first decided i will buy this and i was assured it's gonna be easy although at this time it's limited to what kind of midi messages and type of controller it will accept [don't ask me for it does and it doesn't cause i don't know but there's a topic, i believe, on gearsluts one of the developers posted with complete info].i had a nanoKontrol and an APC mapped to mixbus and it worked great, the controls on the screen respond fast and smooth and it was easy to map them togheter.
a few things i didn't like: the layout - needs some attention, i think visually it could be done better with the main concern being the knobs and some other controls are too small and hard to see from a distance. also, there's is a mistake, which was confirmed by tech ppl at Harrison, with the push buttons not being able to be mapped to midi controllers.
i guess these bugs are being addressed as we speak and will be part of the next upcoming update.
so far so pretty damn good - i'm happy with this and the price....it's stupid low.

I'm really interested by this cheap and powerful DAW/mix engine, I guess I'll buy it, well, really soon. 79$ is approx 53 euros...
feedback soon!

Can you route Live tracks straight into Mixbus like you can do with Logic?
Ardour says: "If you have JACK aware apps (like Ardour, Mixbus, Hydrogen, PureData and others), then they expose their own inputs and outputs directly by registering JACK ports."
Is Live JACK aware app?
Currently I mostly mix tracks made with Live in Logic as I don't like the sound and feel of the mixer in Live. I'd like to bypass the transfer part and route tracks from Live to Mixbuss. That would also give the much needed support for another monitor as you could keep Live arrangement in other screen while keeping mixer in another.

freekster, yes, live is "jack aware", and yes you can route live tracks to harrison mixbus via jack.
well, I didn't try, but I have used jack with live, without any problem, and read the harrison's mixbus quickstart guide,
and I'm quite sure you can do this.
if not, you can bounce your live tracks to audiofiles and import them into mixbus.

That's what i'm now doing with Logic and liked to get rid off. If Live is JACK aware then it should not be a problem. Thnx.

I'm gonna get this on payday.
A couple of weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get the chance to mix one of my tracks on an SSL AWS900 console... It was a great experience and really helped me focus on getting the best possible mix out of my stems. Mixbus is more compatible with my budget...

_________
sigs suck.

I don't get it right, why would a real time re-recording thru a virtual audio dispatcher device then another DAW, be more easy or interesting than export/import of bounces?
you'd like to use mixbus as a kind of third mixing layer, without any "record to disk" or "export" stage between live's instrument level and the mixbus mixing stage? ( 1° instrument layer, 2° live console layer, 3° mixbus console layer) or totally replace live's mixing stage with mixbuss ?
I'm waiting for pay day too...

i had the same problem, is it crashing at the splash window?
most likely you haven't setup Jack properly yet... go into the JackPilot prefs and set it to use your audio interface... if you want to use the built-in audio on an Intel Mac, you need to create an aggregate device that combines the built-in input (or mic) and the built-in output...
oh, and you need to stop Jack (hit the stop button on JackPilot) before you can change the JackPilot prefs...

Umm... What should make me think that just because Person X knows how to build a quality analog compressor or EQ that this gives them any great insight on coding a quality digital compressor or EQ?
I build an analog synth once... I won't be coding Reaktor anytime soon.
