Ah hah! Thanks!glitchrock-buddha wrote:Ya this is what I was talking about. The LCD display reverts to template 40 (Ableton Automap) whenever you switch to another template. The knobs/sliders still control the template that you switched to btw, it just doesn't display the right things. To fix this, you either go into preferences and de-select the midi output from ableton, or you can hit the play button like I said, which makes the proper names appear on the LCD for the template you changed it to, but just for a second though.LOFA wrote:
Edit: For example, why does my template seem to randomly switch back from #35 to #40?

My 17" lappie came in last week, the Novation bag spec says it won't hold a 17", I might go check out the M-Audio bag over at Robotspeak, or just keep using the wheeled carry on suitcase I've been using.

All my gear gets put into old leather or vinyl luggage. It's inconspicuous and makes me look uber hip.
$2 -$5 at goodwill or StVinny's will get you something solid. I then get packing foam and shape it to my gear. Then I hotglue it in the case for a perfect fit.
I dropped my MPC down some stairs once and it was fine.
3ghz Pentium 4 (Prescott), XP Sp2, 1gig Ram, Dual Monitor with Matrox Millenium, MOTU Traveler, Event EZ8 Adat card. Also IBM THinkpad t40 1.6 1 gig ram
I just got my SL25 for my imac G5 and i was wondering what setup everyone is using in the Live MIDI preferences, as far as IN,Out,Remote, and sync are concerned. i'm not sure i understand how the 2 USB ports and what that 3rd one does.
Automap is very confusing for me so far, but the potential for it is big. I can't get the tap tempo to work either.
my joystick is a little wobbly as well!

Under 'Remote Control Surfaces' Set the SL in all 3 boxes (control, inuput, output). On mine, sometimes in the midi in/out boxes Live only has 'USB device' listed and sometimes Live loses the settings. Resetting them works out ok.ortho wrote:I just got my SL25 for my imac G5 and i was wondering what setup everyone is using in the Live MIDI preferences, as far as IN,Out,Remote, and sync are concerned. i'm not sure i understand how the 2 USB ports and what that 3rd one does.

LOFA and Glitchrock posted about this a bit...
Last night I jammed at a friend's place, I connected to his setup via MIDI, I synced my MIDI clock to USB device[2]. My SL is 'USB[1]' or just 'USB', a device connected to it is 'USB[2]', the more devices you add, the higher the number after 'USB'. Initially the SL showed up only as 'USB Device' and wouldn't sync, I had to reinstall to get it to list as 'SL25' then I could sync to the other setup.
That's more or less how it happened, it was late, I was wasted, I didn't take notes, but all worked well in the end.
Automap is pretty straightforward, just spend some time with it. The manual is short, there are videos on the DVD that came with it and on the http://www.novationmusic.com site.
Novation and Live definitely need to update Automap, having the jumping knobs is a drag, amateur move. The SL is short on keys BUT it's great to have a portable keyboard, I don't know if I'd get an SL0 with another keyboard, in the end they'd take more space. I have a full scale keyboard anyway.

oh well ...
the first one i got had a dodgy pitch bender, it had a weird little glitch at the top of its bend range that stopped it from reaching its full range, unless u pushed it a little too hard.
now the second one has 5 non workin pads, they only send a message if u push them really hard and only then as u release them, also the pitch bender clicks in the middle of its range.
shame shame
im rather gutted
its a sweet unit but i wont want to try a third, especially as the guy in the shop (soundcontrol glasgow) muttered something under his breath about them already recalling them and he thought they were all fixed now
regards

Ministry has ended up being timeless, been listening to them since 'With Sympathy'.LOFA wrote:I'm feeling the Ministry reference. All night at work last night I had So What in my head.
Its total work music, 'if I gotta be here, fuck you and your bullshit'. I work amongst a bunch of cubicles, I like walking around listening to Ministry, Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Sabbath, NIN on my headphones... funny juxtoposition 'cause I work with a bunch of geeks (I got it good though).
Yeah. I was definately weened by ministry myself. The whole catalogue. Unfortunately I have listen to some god-awful top forty crap at work. My one supervisor lives by it. I have been alone all week, collecting my thoughts in the silence, training myself all these frigging IT operations. Naturally, "So What" creeped back into my head.DeadlyKungFu wrote:Ministry has ended up being timeless, been listening to them since 'With Sympathy'.

This scares me. I hope that none of these glitches I am experiencing are hardware.dave dominey wrote:its a sweet unit but i wont want to try a third, especially as the guy in the shop (soundcontrol glasgow) muttered something under his breath about them already recalling them and he thought they were all fixed now

he is getting a new batch in next week, ive gotta give it another chance coz its a superb toy
i'll want it testing in store before i bring it home again though
