soooo: i'm not that interested in what i look like while i'm playing music. I just do it and am as natural as possible while working. I hope to connect with the audience with sound. If everything goes well, they should be able to feel what i'm feeling through that.

I got into electronic music in part because of the gaping vagina threads on the DAW forums.

lm - got job indeed, your tune is top notch.
That bands showmanship or lack of it is the least of their problems. The "music" -for me it was aural torture- is not any worse due to their appearance

Regarding show aspect these days, though I rarely check MTV, if I do then 99% with mute on, visuals are so much better then audio, which is mostly unbearable.

Chiming in late here, but what the hell...

I watched the video.

Easy to dissect:
- VERY new to their instruments... really did look like they'd just opened the gear and were trying to figure out how to use it
- uninspiring performance... no excitement, stemming from a VERY low skill level at their gear, and NO previous experience improvising with people (and certainly not each other)
- song wasn't a song... it was like a long intro to something that never happened
- big stage... was it "open laptop night" or something

Don't get me wrong... I like "abstract" stuff, and impromptu stuff... I've seen a lot of it, and generally enjoy it. But, you have to know your kit, and you should probably at least have some information about who you're performing with or a very open mind.
This looked like individuals doing individual things, at a very low-skill level.

These guys could have been in separate rooms without any knowledge of each other (or monitoring) and it would have sounded the same. There wasn't the slightest idea of a "unit" to it... just a few guys doing their own thing, without (seemingly) any regard to actually cohering, even in an incoherent way.

It was noise... not music, and not art. It was neither ambient or minimalist, or electronic, or classical, or anything at all.
It really, really did look (and sound) like people playing in the same room at guitar center... simultaneous, but not together in any way: strangers.

Sorry... a bit brutal, but goodness, that was bad.

Don't get me wrong. I've had sessions like that. :?

so now this is another vagina thread.........thanks.

I completely agree with you l.m., I remember you saying something about closing eyes at performances, the diff between us is that I want folks to not have to close their eyes to have that experience, but alot of folks create a disconnect of the correlation between the visual and the auditory of their performances, just my opinion of course but imagine if you will rick james performing superfreak but looking like he was checking email. since the public did not send their ears on ahead to experience a show and came in full body and sense armoury then i feel as much of those senses as possible should be stimulated in sync with the music. I mean why play favorites with just the ears that's what CDs are for.
