I noticed the playing clips are flashing. Do you use a dedicated MIDI track for that, like abletonbasic for the monome?

yes you can,in the video on the Maschine site he is using the group buttons to act like the cursor keys on your computerkeyboard

yes there is.when a clip is playing, the pad blinks.when there is a clip present,it lits up.when there is no clip it is not lit up.
i'm getting maschine instead of the apc-40.and getting something like a uc-33 or bcr2000 to handle all my mixingtasks(without skipping through pages like with a remote sl or maschine),and my setup is complete

nope. it is built in to Ableton as a remote midi script. No crazy assigning needed. Really is just plug and play.
I also love the fact that you can easily switch between Maschine templates with one touch of a button to access even more midi controls, however you like to customize your live set controls.

I am now Maschined!
So they have a new tutorial up on the NI site regarding controlling Ableton with Maschine.

mattcellitti how did you set yours up? And are you using Mashine with Ableton 7 or the 8beta?
cheers
Also theres a thread regarding some issues and missing pages in the template...

Yeah- the template provided with the update was only two pages. Fortunately, Phil had saved one of the beta templates- that's five pages.

Would be cool if it helps/inspires some people, but in my experience, can do something ? made for it.
I would rather just get an APC & continue to use my PK for pads.

does this mean that abletons own functionality is helping to make maschine look better than the apc for use with ableton?

no, NI just released theirs first, I highly doubt the Maschine will do all the APC can do, these are just fanboys getting their jollies. hilarious demo though, NI 1, Ableton 0.
I wonder if Ableton is working on a reverse pwn, get the APC to work with NI stuff.

C'mon.... 4x4 clip launch matrix... it's great that you can use Maschine to launch clips, but certainly no APC40 replacement. I wouldn't want to switch banks all the time just because I'm using 8 tracks....
As already said: Maschine is great for its purpose (velocity sensitive pads, editing on the device), but the APC40 is really different.

Ha... jolly fan boyz. That's good! But I prefer Poser to FanBoy...personally, reminds me of ye olde skateboarding days. BTW I'm def not saying Maschine is "better" than the APC40... that's just kinda silly. But Maschine is exciting because I can see my sends, levels, etc on the displays and then there's the pads which I have been sorely needing to program beats.
Anyhoot... has anyone figured out how to use the pads to just enter midi data ala a PadKontrol (i.e not using it to enter notes in the Maschine software or to control scenes) Is it possible to switch templates when within Ableton so you can have the Maschine control, the Ableton control template and a third template for entering midi notes into live clips with the pads? Kinda confused.
Edit: Nevermind, I figured out how to use different templates.

Yeah I'm close to jumping on the maschine band wagon as well. The thought of a hardware sampling midi controller just seems to good. The only thing is the price tag, I'd be dropping alot of cash to end up with a sound library I have no need for. I wonder after it's out for a while, will you be able to buy just the controller, kinda like how they have kore, kore player, software edition.
