i was wonderin bout that! cake and eat it too?! And the pads are velocity sensitive right... so there's only a row of 4 across but I'm hoping you can slide it over and trigger the next 4 channels?

The blue group buttons actually light up like arrow keys so you can navigate around the set. You can also switch between launching individual clips or entire scenes by toggling the pattern and scene buttons respectively. Yes the pads are velocity sensitive and the 8 soft buttons at the top can mute/solo/rec arm tracks.continuous wrote:i was wonderin bout that! cake and eat it too?! Very Interesting.... DL'd the manual.
oh yeah! Not sure if this was posted but here's a "rushed" review of Maschine by AudioMidi...
http://createdigitalmusic.com/2009/02/1 ... -hands-on/
I am so fucking smitten with the lady in the vid.... [don't tell my wife!]
From the NI Site...
The MASCHINE Controller can not only be used with the MASCHINE software - it is also a powerful universal hardware controller for use with any MIDI-compatible hardware or software.
• Easily assign any button, pad and knob to a MIDI function – from software to hardware synths, samplers, sequencers and effects
• Switch control from MASCHINE to other gear instantly with a dedicated hardware button
So one more question... can you use the pads to enter midi into Live's seq Like a PadKontrol?

Re: NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
but how the hell was that ever possible to scroll upon 4x4 groups of clips in session view, with any mpc-like midi controller before? is it possible that it's done in live8 and uses some functionality that was originally made for the APC40? in other words, would it possible to be done with padkontrol today?
another thing i couldn't see from the video, does Live give a visual feedback for scrolling clip groups as it does with the APC?

Yup. One of the great things I noticed is that this midi control is a custom REMOTE setup. THerefore, there was no assigning anything in Live by pushing [apple] [m]. The script is written into Ableton (i was using 7 btw)
So yes, you could easily just load another custom template for Maschine by hitting shift + arrow over then assign every cc you could imagine inside of the set by using [apple][m] to assign the midi values to seq, fx, knobs, etc.
Then at any time, you could hit shift+arrow over to go back to the Live control template.

Re: NI Maschine controlling Ableton just like APC40
there is no visual feedback like the red bar around selected clips that the APC has. That would be nice, but i have found that by putting in "dummy" tracks and scenes every fifth track, I can separate the clips into groups of 4x4 so i can tell whats going on a little bit better.shai wrote:but how the hell was that ever possible to scroll upon 4x4 groups of clips in session view, with any mpc-like midi controller before? is it possible that it's done in live8 and uses some functionality that was originally made for the APC40? in other words, would it possible to be done with padkontrol today?

The video was done with the Live controller template that's part of the 1.0.2 update for Maschine...
