Well said! You captured some of the essence of what makes the 'Pass This On' video so compelling.
I just watched it & the Audio Visual Experience DVD about an hour ago, & now I'm going to watch 'Pass This On' again. So glad someone brought up The Knife on the forum!
Ambiguity is something that is under utilized, especially in this hyper-accelerated void, er, world.

the first time i heard the knife was their first (self titled?) album. didn't like it at first. then i caught on to their weird videos ... i saw some fan-made video about animals searching for the knife ... for no specific reason THAT VIDEO converted me right then and there and i rushed to pick up everything i could get my hands on. their music reminds me of listening to THE CURE for the first time, very moody.
olaf's beats are smoking hot. it would be wild if he produced an all instrumental album

Just went back and watched the Pass This On video. Interesting idea, good video, the music is soooo fucking boring and lame-o I can't believe it.
Maybe I'll back to it later, but I have sort of checked them out 3 times now, and it is not growing on me. BORING!

You're in for a real treat if you got the deluxe edition with the 2 CDs & DVD of the live 'Audio Visual Experience'. The live versions of Pass This On, You Make Me Like Charity, Kino, & Heartbeats have been given the Silent Shout treatment.

You might like Silent Shout more than their other work. It is darker, more macabre, sonically adventurous & experimental, while still maintaining strong pop sensibilities. Also watch the video of their live performance for a wider view into their unique aesthetic. Maybe it will click for you.

Neither do I for the most part. Bought the 3 disc black slip case (all paper sleeves/packaging) and tried to listen to it several times. Too boring and bleak for my taste, but I did try. Kind of reminds me of the depeche mode on ludes.
Most people think my taste in music sucks, so I am used to the "what!?" reaction.
I just DO NOT like electronic music that is too "keyboardy" like VNV Nation and Razed in Black

love The Sword except there drum tones SUCK. They got that lame coffee can snare thing going. Excellent otherwise. Witchcraft is another parallel that suffers from the same shite drum tones, but not quite as much.

There are some cracking remixes of The Knife too, check out the Rex The Dog remixes of Heartbeats & Marble House and the Dahlback remix of Pass This On.
They're all killer.
