I feel your pain. The glitches have taken a lot of the fun out. I still have 7 loaded on my pc, but I was really trying to get use to using all of the new features. That's is the fun part about buying an update!!!!!

I also feel your pain. I've been using Live since version 1, & have experienced long stretches of issues at different times. Currently I'm on 7 & it's pretty stable. A hand full of issues, but nothing major for me -thankfully.

I'm going to hold off on 8 for a while.

And you're not the first person to do this and claim hard drive space issues, also stupid. Hard drives are cheap as hell and if you're doing a lot of audio and video work there should also be a large amount of empty space on the drive and just keeping Live 6 shouldn't push that drive into unusable.

I'm really surprised by this since you are saying you do this for a living, not exactly a noob.
I always save a previous version for a while, as well as the installers so I can re-install an older version if I need to.

Sorry to hear about your problems SubFunk. Hope they get it sorted ASAP.
I don't have 8 yet but when I do I probably won't delete 7 until around the time 9 is coming out.

I also have a backup drive with installers of just about everything I've ever installed for the last 3 years. Sure I don't need most of it, but it saved my ass a couple times. Also it has reintroduced me to stuff I didn't even remember having.

Why don't the Abes give you access to downloads for all the previous versions you have owned, or do they? There's even people who have wanted to go back to previous versions even when they aren't having major issues with the current.

Very good question.

There are a lot of companies that just turn their back on their old products, or erase their own histories.

Wow am I the only one having a smooth experience with L8? Maybe its because I've used so many DAWs in the past but when I find a small problem or limitation, instead of moaning about the end of the world I usually just find a work around.

Everything you've mentioned has a workaround I can think of off the top of my head except graphical glitches with loading a set which I've never experienced before... but I think if my window wasn't rendering properly I'd do something like minimize then maximize or enter full screen, something to cause a window to redraw.

Can you copy paste your midi patterns out of 8 and into 6?

Audio clips would be stored in the project folder... So if you had your midi patterns and did a screen shot of the instruments you used could you recreate a set that way?

I know it wouldn't do shit for effects or automation, but since you say its a living for you I'm just trying to come up with a way for you to salvage some of your fucked over hard work....

As much as I love using Ableton, I have learnt that being an early adopter isn't worthwhile unless you like troubleshooting. I will still stay on version 6 until they announce live 9, then I will upgrade to version 8 and hopefully get a great deal out of it.
I never upgraded to 7 as I didn't see much need to. Version 8 though sounds great, but I will hold off until it is stable. I can't be bothered problem solving or finding work arounds.

One thing I wish about Live is that when it is released that it is as stable as say Reason. I say get it as right as possible from the start, even if it means that it may take longer to release. Reason is a great example of that. Propellerheads take their time in releasing new updates, but at least they are generally bug free.

It's one thing Ableton reading people's comments and a totally different thing taking it in and acting on it.

We'll find out for sure come Live 9 but I too am like you, i'm not getting 8 until I know it's more stable.

It appears to have more bugs in it than a rotting tree stump and should never have been released so hastily.

Working fine for me...only a few crashes, usually involving Spectrasonics (Omnisphere & Stylus) use in the projects...I'm saving often, and making safeties.

Of course. The original poster could easily just re-install version 6 and work in that.

SubFunk wrote: i need to prepare some material urgent. oh well... my own fault to think it will be just a few hickups and not knowing to expect major fuck up's from a company i usually think positive about.

Logic 7.0 cured me of thinking that software by reputable companies with solid histories of stability behind them are bullet proof. Logic 7.0 was so unstable on my system that it once crashed with the sequencer no running, in the time it took me to go get a cup of coffee. Did the same thing, had whole songs started in Logic 7 etc. Personally on my system Live 8 beta wasn't that stable, but they released it, In a way it's a good thing I'm in a tight way money wise right now, Live 7 is just fine. Sorry to hear you got bit.

Everything in 8 runs extremely smooth for me.

No problems here, even going back to the beta releases. 8 has been a major improvement for me in terms of performance, so they get no complaints from me, but I definitely sympathize with SubFunk.

Hey, just to clarify... Not moaning here i just needed a vent, i worked on the weekend (ehhh, wanted to work!) on some new stuff and came across some major, not minor issues and a few bits that are on the beta bug list since aaagggeeesss...

It messed up half of my productive time, so i got angry.
and of course i now workarounds and such, hey i work in the live audio environment, there are no excuses for something not working, you always need one up your sleeve... The show must go on... but knowing a workaround has nothing to do with what it should be: a version with minor not major issues.

And still i expected a better performance then the trouble i have, for a 309 euro upgrade.
So i took my right to rant.

@ john... Ok ok it's their  saved.
