I am really angry about L8

Post by SubFunk » Mon May 04, 2009 7:33 am

Damn, problems galore!

I don't have the time and energy to be still a beta tester and report every detail to the support team or into the bugs forum, but here is a quick list of the major ones i have to deal with after a 309 euro upgrade.

1. Automation does not record propperly and if i manage after several attempts it does not play back at all.
2. Dragging a device into the session view does not scroll when you reach a window edge (maximal annoying)
3. Still graphical glitches when loading a set (early over and over reported bug)
4. Piano roll sometimes disappears when clicking on a midi clip.
5. Random crashes while dragging instruments into session.

And yesterday after making a brand new track all in session view, i made a little break changed some scene sets on my padK and after going back to live it does not play any clip anymore longer the about 1/2 second (all midi and AU instruments). Restart did not solved the problem, i needed to drag them into the arrange there they still play normal.

Damn i am so angry, i need to work! Time is money!
I used ableton as well for my day job as a sound engineer as a efx rack for FOH now i can't anymore, cause it's flaky. FUCK!

and i need to make music and not being an enhanced beta tester.
Jeez i am angry, i just hope some guys from the coding / developement department will come to the next live user group meeting in berlin, so i can tear there head off in person!

I am fully aware of hick-ups in early versions, but not major issues.

Here is another one i forgot to mention.

6. The transport via keyboard does not work if a plug or instrument is in focus, that one is a real bummer for a healthy workflow as well.

No my boss is not blaiming me at all, it's my decision using live.
For time being it seems to be a wrong one.

And yes i got rid of 6 (never was on 7) cause of space issues, and as i said counted with some normal early issues, but this makes working with live a full blown nightmare for now.

Just damn fix it.

I not only use live for my pleasure!!!!!!!!!

this has always annoyed me as well..
small workaround; hover the last visible track so it gets selected, then use the right arrow key to jump to a next track..

ok, i just found out the whole midi mapping is totally messed up.

if i assign a CC or midi note from my padK then this happens and another strange thing is that my main midi keyboard, my XP-30 will play ok any instrument in a channel if i arm it, but want allow me to map a key to a clip, just nothing happens if i try to assign a key from it to a clip... arrgghh

oh my oh my... i am so annoyed i give up. i go to bed and try to not get even more angry as i am already.

the damn betas where working better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unfortunately it's not a joke.

i need to prepare some material urgent. oh well... my own fault to think it will be just a few hickups and not knowing to expect major fuck up's from a company i usually think positive about.

edit:

after resetting all my midi preferences, resetting everything once and switching back and forth several times the remote switch seems to work,
for now. maybe they programmed it so good, that the switches have an behavior like real ones, loosing contact after time... LOL.

Not to rub salt in the wound here, but deleting an old version of a program in favor of a new version that's on the first rev. is stuuuuuuuuupid.

And you're not the first person to do this and claim hard drive space issues, also stupid. Hard drives are cheap as hell and if you're doing a lot of audio and video work there should also be a large amount of empty space on the drive and just keeping Live 6 shouldn't push that drive into unusable.

I'm really surprised by this since you are saying you do this for a living, not exactly a noob.

I agree, this is a pain (as is not being able to assign play/pause to the transport button, rather than play/return.

However, if you get a nanoKontrol and nanoLive as an interface, your transport problems will be over....
AND you have hardware control over your plugins in Device Mode...

Add a nanoKey or nanoPad, and you have even more flexibility in triggering clips....

IMO, it is a no-brainer.....

you see the problem is that i do consider myself an total idiot regarding this, and yes HD space is cheap, and i have plenty of it on my external ones...

the internal drive i need to swap urgently and i did not managed time wise...

i got probabbly to excited about L8. and you see even experienced users and yes i consider myself one and i do make a living out of audio / soundwork... make stoopit noob mistakes, well i learned my lesson once again.

still i accounted hick-ups (normal in early versions) and not major issues.

going to sleep now.

I always save a previous version for a while, as well as the installers so I can re-install an older version if I need to.

Sorry to hear about your problems SubFunk. Hope they get it sorted ASAP.
