Well, I have some friends who tried to run 5.2 on their intel macs and it acted really strange and ran slowly, but that was quite a while ago and we never tried it since. I figured that 5.2 was not optimized for intel macs' multi-core processors and runs slowly as a result of only utilizing one of the processor cores. Am I wrong on this?

If I could afford a new mac, I would probably get it, but that's at least a $500-1000 difference between the price of an new version of live or a new computer.

I have not tried the demo of 8 yet, but from what I'm hearing, it will probably be a humbling experience.

Anyone got a copy of 6 or 7 they would be willing to sell?
Yeah, sorry your right. 5.2 was optimized for intel, but it was not until 6 that dual core was supported.....
A cheap option is a mac mini with a monitor, still quite portable, but not a laptop for sure. I actually replaced a g4 tower with one and am blown away how much more powerful it is. I actually find my self using my mac mini more than my mac book pro...just out of convenience since it is already set up.

jeez it's a bit pricey for an older version.....

I'd actually prefer to find a version of live 6 for now, since it would probably do the best on my machine and save me some $$ for my eventual computer upgrade.

Anyone got a version of 6 to sell?

the white ones do still have firewire... that is a HUGE plus in my eyes, they also pushed the specs recently up... my girlfriend has an older black MB 2.0 ghz and it's a fine machine... she treats it pretty rough... and it's purrrrrring away.......

by the way... i don't get it, not long ago you wanted to sell your 1029s because of money issues and now you want to buy a new computer... what's up with that?

ahhh... sorry that i asked, but i was wondering...

good choice, if you sell a pair of genelecs, then you are ripe for a mental institution... unless your studio room grows and you upgrade to the next bigger pair of genies...

a MB will still serve you well, but to downgrade to shit monitors is just plain stupid...

if you want to keep your firebox, then you need to buy a white MB, because of FW... or you change your card as well to a USB... then you can buy the unibody one...

:) You could trap cats and sell then to Chinese restaurants, pull a few nigerian e-mail scams, kidnap a rich baby and hold it for ransom.....

But the performance increase of Live7 going from my P-book to my Macbook Pro was simply revelational!!!
ditto
