Yes

It took about 4 hours doing the clean install, update and install everything I needed, which was the Ms Pinky software, Live, iTunes, and a few plug ins, most of which were backed up. The gig went great, strangely with less trainwrecks than I usually cause  , and actually, it felt good to work on a clean install. I think the only problem was that the iTunes library backup I had was out of date, which meant I had to fumble around a little converting some music to aiff on the fly because Ms Pinky can't play VBR mp3s, but otherwise, not bad.

No bj though :(

How is it user error when it corrupts the backup gets corrupted, then everything else dies when you try to get rid of the corrupted backup?

I don't see why you'd have to boot OS X into safe mode just to delete a backup-- it isn't a system file. Nor how deleting said backup would break your machine.

Well, the iPhone couldn't backup anymore when syncing, so the apple support site says you should delete the backup an do a new one. iTunes wouldn't delete it, so I tried through Finder, which didn't work either. I booted into Safe Mode to see if it could be deleted that way, and so it crapped out. Maybe the HD was wrong before, maybe I did break it, but I didn't do anything out of the ordinary.
