Mac shuts down on startup. Gig in 7 hours. HELP

Post by rbmonosylabik » Sat Nov 21, 2009 6:47 pm

I started my mac in Safe Mode to delete some files that were causing trouble. I shut down the computer, turn it back on, and now it shuts down on it's own after the gray apple/ spinning gear screen. I tried booting from the Installation disc, but it just hangs in the same screen, not shutting down though.

I have a dj gig later today, and if it doesn't work, I'll have to cancel. Any ideas?

Oof. Could be a lot of things.

Can you start it up in safe mode?

Also, check this:

Unless it's a hardware problem, which it quite likely could be.

...it only occurred after he did some tinkering in safe-mode...

Got it to boot from the startup disc. Disk Utility says there's a Filesystem error in the boot partition, thus it can't be verified. I just went ahead and erased the partition. Lucky I have backups of my software. I bet tomorrow's data recovery will suck though, but first, show must go on.

Also, a tip: don't get an iPhone, it'll find a way to fuck you up when you least expect it.

You may want to install a new HD first

if all of the other suggestions fail, try resetting your PRAM.. i once had a problem with boot up and took it to an apple store.. they said I needed a new motherboard for $700.. i went back home and googled and found out about PRAM.. it worked for me.. I forget what it actually does but it booted back up my computer after the reset and haven't had a problem with it since and didn't need to buy a motherboard like that stupid apple tech guy said at the store..

Well, it's either that or cancelling, and I ain't gonna do that.

Currently it's updating the OS, Live is reinstalled and mildly tested. Waiting to install the ultralite drivers and waiting on a mspinky reply that might not come in time.

If karma exists and it's as fair as it is supposed to be, I should come out with at least a bj after this  . Probably not :( .

Recap to come.

Also, I think the Ms Pinky guys just broke some kind of non automated support e-mail reply record time.

Do what some of the "Top Dj's and Live acts" do... take to the show your set pre recorded and just put on the cd and ...fake
Don't forget to wave your hands, smile and drink beer.

Good Luck...!!!
