totally different devices imho
i got an apc40 and a launchpad
i use the apc40 for liveact, and i must say it has everything i need.
i bought the launchpad for incorporating a live "step sequencer" or some other kind of sequencer into my liveact, but i couldn't really think about using it alone live. too much clicking around and such a low precision to be even worth considering. try thinking about the amount of actions you would require to fire up a few clips, lower the volume fader on channel 1, rising a send on channel 2, and cutting a decay on a specific device on channel 3. this sequence would be full of "mode switching" buttons, that can get really counter intuitive in a live situation on the contrary, with the apc40 i can reach all of these functions on their dedicated controls. As a side effect, an apc40 is way bigger and less practical to carry, i had to buy a dedicated backpack. As an alternative I would require at least 2 ( better 3) LP to have a proper live setup that could allow me to do what i have in mind without too much hassle.
