APC20 or Launchpad???
APC20 or Launchpad???
Chaps!
I know this has maybe has been discussed previously, but i'm stuck between the 2.
The faders on the apc20 appeals to me (coming from a DJ background) but the pads look ideal on the Launchpad. I'm also used to Novation/Automap as i own a remote SL keyboard.
Thoughts?? and please dont mention the APC40 as its outside my budget.
Cheers

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
Personally I'd go for the Launchpad. The APC 20 feels to me like a crippled controller.gavgrant wrote:Chaps!

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
Spending the extra $100 on the APC40 was probably the best decision I ever made. I say, save a lil more and get the APC40, the sheer amount of control and usablitlity for $300 can't be beat.

Good point. I went for LP but I already had BCF2000.!STiTCH! wrote:Spending the extra $100 on the APC40 was probably the best decision I ever made. I say, save a lil more and get the APC40, the sheer amount of control and usablitlity for $300 can't be beat.

Well, IMHO a controller should let you access all controls with one hand.gavgrant wrote:"a crippled controller" ??? what do you mean?Pasha wrote:Personally I'd go for the Launchpad. The APC 20 feels to me like a crippled controller.gavgrant wrote:Chaps!

I mean if there's too much shift press to allow Buttons/Faders/Pad reuse that's what I call
'Crippled'. But this might be me. APC20 has too many controls for the space it uses.
Especially when faders are continuously remapped to something else at the press of a modifier key.
For me it's not practical. Conversely LP provides 'virtual' faders and thus is more manageable.
I'm a little radical here but it's genuinely what I think.
Look at the specs. LP provides less precision due to its 8x8 segments control system while AP20
has multiple mappings. Get what's best for you. A Controller should fit your style.

cheers Pasha. I see your point. I've just started bidding for an APC40 on e-bay for not much more than the APC20 so fingers crossed

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
APC40 and APC20 give you options. buy the other bits of gear, read up on the APC to really understand what it does then decide which is right. in hindsight I could've gone with an APC20 instead, but I still love the APC.

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
FYI: If you're in the US, the APC40 is now available for $250 from Amazon. Seems crazy to even consider an APC20. (But I don't think the price drops have spread to Europe.)

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
For 40€ less than the APC40, and 90€ more than the APC20, I would propose Launchpad + BCF2000
They're part of my setup because I think that this solution is more flexible and expandable. Plus, you got the motorized faders, which are a must to my point of view.

yeah, but thats 2 units to carry about PLUS a soundcard & Laptop!
The APC's look ideal. I was initially going to get the launchpad, but the lack of faders is a real sticking point for me - and Ive heard its easy to knock other clips when changing volume...
mmmmm..... so far i'm 90% Akai, 10% Launchpad

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
in end of the day all this dedicated controlers are a waste ofmoey..especially with the pretty lousy software implrmentation they have even for theire dedicated program... it´s trash ..fake hardware..
we will see tons of them on the second hand market soon when the i pads get cheaper..
i would wait for that and get a apc 40 for less than 200 than...
sofar the compuer keyboard an a standard faderbox are still the better controlers for live because they even work with rewire and dont have extra weight..

Re: APC20 or Launchpad???
My philosophy is to have as few devices as possible, that's why I use the APC40, and love it.
