I WILL WAIT TILL LIVE WILL HAVE WAVE EXPORT OPTION.
THEN I WILL BE ABLE TO IMPORT A SONG TO MUSIC MAKING GENERATION 7 AND DO ALL I WROTE ABOUT BEFORE .
BUT ANYHOW LIVE IS AGREAT SOFTWARE AND AFTER NEXT APGRADE I WILL HAVE IT.
P.S. WHEN YOU HAVE SOME TIME ON YOUR HANDS HAVE A LOOK ON MAGIX"S MUSIC MAKING GENERATION 6 AS THEY
DO NOT HAVE V.7 ON DEMO YET .THEY HAVE IMPLEMENTED SOME VERY COOL FEATURES.

i played with MM for a little while and i think i see what you mean. it seems that live is functionally the same, it's just that the "function" is in a different place.

i think you can accomplish what you speak of, if you imagine the tracks in Live as the in-line effects "busses" in MM.

Hello guyz, I'm convinced that Live can be used for DJ-ing but I just can't figure out how. I don't have any experience with sequencing programs but I've been DJ-ing with Traktor and other software for over 2 years now.. It's just that Live is different and a lot more complex... So I suppose for Live Djing , I should only use the arrangement , right ? You put the different songs you want to mix in two different tracks and you alternate between the two tracks as your mix progresses... The reason I'm saying that is because you can assign the crossfader to two tracks and it's no use of having to change the crossfader properties all the time by having different tracks for each song you play.

Next is beatmatching.. I've never beatmatched in this sort of way and all of you is saying it's so easy to beatmatch with Live.. I also read bits of the tutorial but I just didn't figure it out yet ! I know I sound naive but could you please help ? It will be easier to know a working procedure rather than struggling and finding it out my own way

the first question is: do you have a soundcard with ASIO drivers? (if you have low-latency drivers, you can use the Session Mode to beatmatch by ear.)

Same here, can't figure how to beatmatch 2 records when djing with Live.
I've experienced the easy-to-use Traktor DJ Studio, but Live could be so much better (mixing two records, adding a few tracks of loops, sounds, pads and so on...)
I guess the answer to beatmatch is the Warp mode.
Still, can't really figure how to work it out without marking several parts of the track. That's the problem: Do I have enough time to mark several 100's of full aiff tracks? Or does beatmatch work automatically after pushing the warp button?

hi guys,

the first thing to do would definitely be to warp every track you plan to use, start to finish. warp does not work automatically, but generally speaking it doesn't take long on rhythmic music.

warping the tracks is really the first hurdle to get past.

once you've figured that out, you can move on to other things, like chopping tracks up into different verses and vamps, and beatmatching on the fly.

I curently run Logic on a MAC OS with a Motu soundcard...

I'm looking at DJ'ing in a more traditional sense, in set form, 60's 70's 80's 90's to current.

I have looked at many sofware options, as I'm not interested in decks...
Traktor, IK Groove maker...others I can't remember.

I like the idea of live's ability to bring in loops and audio files...though it looks like it could be difficult to set up a string of songs and let it play. It also uses Rewire with Logic, so thats a plus for me...it's seems so multifunctional.
....Can it just do playlists like Traktor?

The sequencer time line would need to be quite long....yes?

Well thats all I need....A laptop, sound files, multifunctonal DJ software and a midi controller.

Any insights will be helpful guys... I already knows it's a great jamming tool.

Sounds like an interesting concept.

But I think, in this case, its best not to compromise (i.e. retrofit Live) for the needs of the DJ.

There are rumors that the next version of Traktor will have Rewire implemented. If so, then the issue of interface and ergonomics concerning the DJ metaphor can be kept intact for Traktor users while those using Live can continue to play original material composed on the fly.

And with Rewire, we should be able to enjoy both options in SYNC with each other.

Its what I've been doing with my set up (G4 PB, MOTU 828, all routed into a Pioneer DJM-3000 DJ mixer).

Live just doesn't cut it for what you can simply do in Traktor. The best thing to do is lock BPM value in one or the other programs and mix that way (while cueing in the external mixer) or wait for Rewire.

I think Live is definitely on to something here - I would hate to see them try to retrofit the workflow of the DJ beyond what has been done already. Let Traktor do it and let live continue to push the boundries of on the fly composition.

I also use MixMeister to make my mix CDs, as it is extremely easy to get the beats automatically detected and synch'ed up. The major problem I have with Live in this regard is that it cannot go through the entire song, find the major beats and mark these automatically. It seems as if Live looks through the song and gives an average of the tempo.

It's extremely tedious to go through all the songs manually and put in all the beat markings manually, but if I have to do it, I guess I will.

most of the djs are too conservative to use something like Live, aren't they?

i think it's a combo of being averse to change and maintaining the status quo. a computer evens the playing field a lot. however, i think using a laptop to do 2 track dj-style mixing is silly. why use the technology at all if you're not going to push the boundaries?
