djing with live
ive used live to DJ a couple of times;
though its still a little more wieldy to use short loops with the program, i found that it's suprisingly easy to beatmatch tracks, even if the wave files are not precisely cut.
and, you can do "beat-precise scratching", very complex stutter effects, and the like with live that would be nigh impossible with any existing DJ hardware.

DJing techniques with Live
there are a few things that turntables do that make them so good for manipulating and mixing 2 (or more) songs:
1) their tempos can be independently adjusted.
2) it is easy to adjust the position of the playback in the track, relative to the current playback position. (i.e. "nudging", "dragging", scratching, backcueing).
it is easy to do these things with the wave edit faculties of Live.
98% of the "grunt work" of beatmatching is done for you by the program, before you start. however, if you want the sounds to be way off-tempo for some reason, it is easy to alter the master tempo markers to achieve this.
the remaining 2% of the beat/tempo matching can be done by zooming in on a very small part at the beginning of the track and making slight adjustments to the master tempo markers. adjusting to the right is the equivalent of "dragging" a record back. doing the same thing - but to the left - is the equivalent of "nudging" a record forward. this is ideal if the tracks are tempo matched, but if you want them to "both be on the one" instead of "1" and "2 1/2", or whatever. a similar (but subtly different "feeling") effect can be achieved by jacking the second number of the time signature up, and thus getting more beats-per-measure. then you can adjust the starting position marker in realtime to not change the tempo at all, but again to subtly adjust the way the sound files "lay together".
by "grabbing" the starting position marker of a sound file, you can easily "relative cue" it back and forth in a variety of ways, especially by setting the audio file to trigger manually. by turning the beats-per-measure up, turning the transient rendering up to 1/32, turn quantization up to around 1/32, and zooming in on four bars or so, you can easily create scratch-like effects. however, these have the advantage over turntables of always automatically returning to the song wherever you specify.
many complex stutter and backcuing effects are also possible using similar techniques. one of my favorites is to have two sounds going, have them fall a few beats offset for a few measures, and then return them to sync on the fly.

Combination of Live and Mixmeister Pro features!
I am a mobile DJ and I use Mixmeister Pro for live-mixing(www.mixmeister.com).
It would be great, if the features from Mixmeister Pro could be integrated in Live.
Mixmeister Pro is the best DJ-software for mixing two songs into one another (with use beat-mixing turned on), but if you want to add some drumloops or other loops it isn´t really good. Please have a look at Mixmeister Pro and tell me and the people from Ableton, that I´m not the only one, who thinks the adding of the Mixmeister Pro features into Live would be great.

MUSIC MAKING GENERATION 6 ITS NOT better than live
live is much more advanced but theres always somethin is missing right.GENERATION 6 IS only software that allows you while previwing part on which
you are going to apply destructive editing ,effects and all that stuff ...to prewiev that part with preapplyed effects while you can hear whats happenning on other tracks unefected with selected by you endless number of effects very cool!
i hope live will do it soon or a later

if i understand you correctly, i think live can do that.
live allows you to precue a sound with an unlimited amount of effects applied - through headphones but not through the master out.
is that what you mean?

yeah, live can do that.
that's what the headphone button is for on every track: pre-cuing. and that can be with-or-without effects.
if i still dont understand you, could you elaborate?
