Its green when locked and off when not locked.
O ok, I understand that it should be green because I wouldn't be using the word clock.

My locked led is green but it is green whatever I do, it doesn't go out if I take out the light pipes or whatever. I'm thinking more and more that it could be faulty.

A question regarding the ADA8000 that you have, how do you use that? Is it exactly the same as the way I am trying to use my fostex?

i.e. ableton group channel/track > 1212m adat out to ada8000 adat in > ada8000 analog out to desk in > desk out to ada8000 analog in > ada8000 adat out to 1212m adat in > ableton

If this is the case do you use an internal clock to sync on the ADA8000 and it works off the bat?
Looks like I use my ADA8000 differently than you are trying. I use the ADA8000's analog outputs (which are fed signal from the ADAT in) for monitor mixes and re-amping. If I go back into my analog mixer with those signals, it's usually for live sound with the output to a PA system rather than back into Live.

Since you are feeding signal both in and out of your mixer and audio interface, you should double check that you have not created a feedback loop.

Forgot to mention that I generally use the 1212M internal clock, so the ADA8000 is set to ADAT for the clock source.

I've tried everything. I've come to the conclusion that the VC8 is dead. Pretty damn annoyed but o well.

Thank you very much to you guys that tried to help me, I really appreciate it. I've learnt a lot more about my patchmix now haha.

Will be on the look out for another AD/DA converter now.

If you're even slightly interested in a hardware mixer at some point, keep you're eyes open for a Korg 168RC. It's a digital mixer that can double duty as an AD/DA with dual ADAT i/o and two decent sounding FX units.

They go for silly money as well.

Don't know how you feel about Behringer, but I've had good luck with the ADA8000 in similar application to your Fostex. Behringer is making some nice updates to the ADA8000 in their upcoming ADA8200...

And I just came across this product page for a new Behringer audio interface which sounds promising. 8 inserts on their analog inputs and it's sure to be at a nice home recording price point. Sweet!

Thanks twisted I will be on the look out for that korg.

Chief, I was reading quite a lot of great things about the ADA8000 and I think I will get it. Will have a look at the new unit too.

Really appreciate the help guys.

Thanks again.
