midi

Post by podprod » Sun Jul 13, 2003 2:29 pm

Hi all:
know we have covered this before yet hoping to keep alive.
Adding midi to live (simple sequencer) would realy open the door for tons of live ideas not to mention the most important feature to loop grooves with more control in the arrange window and fly effects in and out at specific points from our hardware samplers and modules..
We are all already using midi keyboards to control this great program through midi so the next obvious step is to have midi sequencing to complete an important stage in this great party..
Please..if you only use audio great..try to understand what people are doing with midi and audio as well.
I personally have gained a great deal of knowledge from my dance creation friends although I am mainly involved in acoustic jazz.
Its all good and we need to stay open to new ideas ..very very important...
Hope we can all share important information in relation to including midi and make live the MOST important tool for all of us.
regards
POD

i've been beggin for Live to have midi 'cause i love fruity loops so much and the way i can make drum tracks in it. But now that I think about it more, if Live just got the vsti thing happening, FL studio 4 and other apps the have midi and can act as a vsti could take up any midi slack, but leave Live the lean, mean gigging machine that it is. If midi is implemented, I wholeheartedly agree with seperate third page for midi. But seriously, if the vsti thing happens in Live, i think we could all be happy with the numerous options (FL studio 4 being my favorite and cheap too!) to involve midi in that way.

midi in the session

it would be great to incorporate a midi track (in the session view) and drop in sequences, as you drop in samples, so by chosing another scene you also change the sequence, the program change...

I'd sure love midi myself. It doesn't have to have the bells and whistles of high-end daw but just to be able to jam Vstis straight into ableton would make it more live to me.

What would be nice is to have the option record vstis to a midi editor or the vstis straight to audio for manipulating it right afterward.

The midi could also be timestretchable like the audio is currently. Have the ability to extract groove from audio clips and use it to trigger some drum sampler or another midi track. Yum Yum. Fun fun!

How about a freeze function in the arrangement part? ;)

Thoses are some of the stuff I'd love to see in future version of Live.
