If I start at 6 or 7 am the actual 5 to 7 minute layout is done by 2 or 3

it's the edits and effects that push me into the evening or next day

If it's for a label it takes me about 2 days to a week - depends on how cracking they want it

i think it's concieveable to write a great piece of music that moves you in an hour.
who cares what the medium is as long as it's a good piece of music?
sometimes it's easiest to catch the feeling if it's done quickly.
that said, i have tunes i began 15 years ago that i have yet to finish
but i'm not gonna shelve 'em or limit them with a timeframe.

About 2-3 weeks typically.

About 2 weeks working on it 2-4 hours a day. After I finish it, I listen to it again,
realize it's rubbish and delete it. Then, I start on a new song.

never, even if the track's been released. coming from the old school world where, once you left the studio, you could really never go back, except for mastering, i love being able to tweak things even months later, with absolute recall (even with SSL automation, you could never get back to where you'd been remotely like how you can with any DAW).

My released ones are anywhere from 2-4 weeks. Within 2 weeks I have the majority done, and the final week or so is that elusive 5%.

Never under a week for me.

I use Live because it's fun, not so I can release tracks, I don't have a web page or myspace or lookatmeimsospecial.com site. I've got tracks that could be finished in an hour but I always think that I can do more to them. Finishing a track to me ends the track's life, here lies 'Funky Ass Track', it began like this, went like that and ended like this, the end.

I am forcing myself to finish some stuff and put them up somewhere, hearing other people put tracks up is always encouraging.

btw any tips on whoring yourself online? just a page I could post to the Link Your Music page?? I can cruise the sites people post and check them out but any tips would help my lazy ass out.


PS Big shout out to those who ARE out there putting out tracks, playing the parties and making the scene happen. All respect.

I'm really enjoying the myspace thing -you might be surprised - but now if I sometimes find myself wanting to look at someone elses page for some reason I'm more likely to look at my "firends" on myspace than my bookmaks - it's just easier looking at the pictures

If you just want a place to stick your tracks you could go with dreamhost for 7$ a month, they are no good for sites with database backends etc.. because they are oversold with clients pr. server, but you get an insane amount of bandwith so it's good to just hotlink from.
