Nobody knows if they are. Power consumption, heat, etc.

Core 2 Duo has already been in PC laptops for a little while. So there is obviously no heat concern which would prevent release.

I suspect the MacBook Pro w/ Core2Duo should be out soon.

Well, that's how it should be.

They technically aren't "Macs" anymore. They are PCs with Mac OS.

So true. There really isn't any good reason to use a lame ass PC anymore.

I was part of the retail launch group...
..I can verify that heat "will not" be an issue.

[marketing speak alert!]

"because it's so efficient - it uses less power - it produces less heat"

I would imagine that Apple will wait strategically for the next rev (like they always do).

I always noticed that something always happened soon after most locations were out of stock.

But I'm using a macbook pro, and this machine feels pretty smoking. I feel like the dual core 2.33 mghz iMac is the way to go given its price point. If you buy the quad you still have to get a monitor (if you don't have one already) and that can run you $4k easily.

Too bad I just got a 24" screen--- otherwise I might well have bought the iMac.
if you already have the 24" screen then just get a mac pro -- blows away the iMac in terms of performance. it's not even close.

I don't get it, you'd need to have it quite far from the wall, since all the cables are connected at the back, right?

Thanks for the advice - maybe now is the time to finally retire my Tibook.

I think Apple just waits until they have sold most of their old inventory, before releasing the next gen machines. This is part of the reason they keep so quiet about new releases. They want to trick people into buying the old inventory rather than waiting for the new stuff.
