woth operator, put the resonance to the max (24bD filter) and play with the filter envelope and the pitch modulation.
you should get some interesting kicks that you can layer using racks.

when I got my 1000 a few years ago they were giving all these classic drum kits away - I donwloaded them all and referenced them on forums for a minute as well

Try the electronic kick drum sample included in the live sounds. Drop in impulse, use the "soft" button and get to know your filters+attack and decay knobs.

much of the minimal techno i listen to (m_nus, ware, traum, perlon, trapez, etc.)uses either a shallow kick (weak lows) with a sub-heavy bass sound, or a sub-heavy kick with lighter or shorter bass sounds interspersed between the 1/4 notes, or no bass at all.

to get the "lump," you want a softer attack for sure. try starting with a low freq sine wave, sculpting it until you get the sound you want, then add compression, eq, etc. to taste. If you want a little more "hit," throw a 909 sample on top of the sine wave, but cut the volume way down and/or thin it out with eq to blend the two.

eqing the kick initially will take from the initial integrity of the kick...

wouldnt it be better to scoop out the higher freq with a filter and layer the kick over another 808 with a slightly longer decay?... just a thought. this is how i build my kicks normally... oh and dont forget your compression. when your close to the final sound you want for your kick i would then start trying to eq it to get it just right.

i do it exactly the same way...

btw... i always test a synthesizer by making a kickdrum it's so much more fun using own synthesized kickdrums than samples...

Hi – have you tried something like the Jomox Airbase or xBase? www.jomox.de. Nice analogue sounds plus some 6 bit+VCA sampled sounds. Plenty of control so you can always get the perfect sound within a few minutes rather than spending a whole evening auditioning samples. I think the bass drum has 11 controls (from memory)

Im not a big fan of samples for core drum sounds and for me, the Jomox are awesome..
