I kind of got the impression that they were more taking the piss out of the media, as Satan is saying to Steve that it's a bit insensitive to be dressed like that so soon after his death (cos he thinks it's someone in costume).

yeah

but they're definitely taking the piss out of him too - firstly because he's in hell, and second because he says to satan "I thought we were friends!"

there are definitely schools of thought that would take exception to the way he consistantly fucked with animals

it made me laugh "oh hey sinatra"

on that note southpark's on telly now....

Is this kind of stuff really "shocking"? Of course not, that's just the media looking for the next thing to squawk about--and all the sheeple take the bait. I prefer to think of it not as "shocking" but as "stupid." I mean, really, on the scale of all things humorous, how funny is this? "Look! It's that Steve Irwin guy! And he's got a stingray hanging from his chest! Ha Ha HA HA ha ha!!! He was killed by a stingray you know! Isn't that priceless!"

It doesn't offend me at all--though I can see how his family might find it callous. Its biggest problem, I think, is that it's just not funny. But I've never really seen how "shock" equals "humor." Howard Stern says lewd things to a stripper... WHAT!?! I'm peeing my pants! Little cartoon kids cursing--and "they killed Kenny" or whatever--unmitigated wit and hilarity, that.

Seriously, to me it's a problem with their writing talent. I prefer comedy with some brains.

Ha, fuck. It's funny when people that have never written for a show run their mouths like this. I'd bet you couldn't write a script with 1/10th of the talent that south park has, so hush.

Because I didn't write South Park I'm not qualified to comment on it. That's handy.

But you're right about one thing--it would be VERY difficult to write a script with 1/10th of the talent that south park has.

Way I see it is either put up or shut up. South Park (whether you like them or not) has pushed the envelope like no other cartoon, and they actually continually have well placed political messages in their cartoon. The writing that goes on in that show is pretty ingenious. So unless you can put together a script that remotely resembles comedy, I would "sit the next couple of plays out".

Some people think South Park is funny, some don't. What's the problem there? There isn't one.

To the subject, tbh they don't really pile it on with the offence in that clip at all. Fuss over nothing.

Whilst I agree that South Park is generally very sharp, witty and one of my favorite shows, I also have to agree that the Steve Irwin bit wasn't very funny. Not because it was sick, or anything like that. It just wasn't up to scratch, seemed to be shock for shock's sake.

I agree that it's not that funny but, remember, it's a throwaway 30 seconds in the show. It makes me smile at least.

That's to my point. "Shock" per se just doesn't make me chuckle. Not to mention the fact that "shock" tends to lose its value when that's basically all you're known for. And I shouldn't have to write a South Park script to prove it.

When it comes to comedy, I'll take "laugh-inducing" over "envelope-pushing" any day.

I thought that episode was hilarious, especially the priests with the little boys on chains. Too funny. South Park is probably the funniest show on TV for me, but then again I think Family Guy is really dumb.

Who cares? It's all just for laughs, you guys will argue about ANYTHING. :)

there were a lot people out this weekend dressed as Steve Irwin - Matt and Trey called it...

check out the South Park Studio forum - some people got into it over the Steve Irwin thing - it's funny

Personally I have no opinion, the episode as a whole was hilarious, the Steve Irwin part, I didn't really laugh just cause the joke wasn't funny. It wasn't a funny joke, nothing about him or his tradegy - I just didn't follow the croc hunter enough to either get it or not - but I wasn't offended or thought it was disrespectful - it just wasn't a funny joke

anywayz
