That sounds just like what people used to say, and some still say, about DJs!!!! "The day a DJ replaces a real musician will be a sad day!"
If someone uses Ableton to just run tracks together, like a boring dj, then yeah, thats extra boring. But Ableton means there's no excuse for that boring crap!
I just started DJing a year ago...I did all Live PA style with Live before...Live PA and production for the Live PA. I started DJing because its a lot more fun for me live, it takes less prep and sounds better, and it frees me up to do AV triggering. Basically its a hell of a lot easier to DJ than to do Live PA properly. Even with using multi-band sidechain compressors, multi-band crossfaders, gates, and dummy clips, DJing is getting hella boring though...I can't wait to get the Live PA to a point I'm happy with it.....until then I'll keep DJing live and producing at home. If someone wants to talk about being a "real" musician I can play guitar, bass, piano, drums, sing, and I have a degree in classical guitar. Haven't learned to use the decks yet, though....
