hey wait!

i've tried this out now - i'm sure i'm doing it just as it's being described but this technique doesn't seem to allow you to manipulate the pitch of a constant stream of audio that is being input into live in realtime - it only allows you to sample part of that constant stream of sound and THEN alter the pitch of that one sample in real time...

i.e. you can't scratch and change pitch simultaneously like you can with a controller one or if you have a pitch change plugin (such as audio damage's discord 2) set up to be controlled by midi

if i'm wrong then please correct me but i don't see how this technique gives the desired result.

does anyone know if you can really change the pitch of an uninterrupted stream of audio in real time using live rather than just change the pitch of a sampled clip??? it should work kinda like a vocoder innit...

any help or feedback much appreciated!!!

i think he'll find you haven't saved him $1000 dollars unfortunately cos this doesn't do what a controller 1 does.

yeah i didn't test it with audioinput. But i need that for samples only anyways so far. Although it woul'd be cool to do that on incoming audio.

Rinko, you won't believe how often over the last two years i asked for a at least similar feature, so im glad it works with sampled material! You could still record your scratches and then pitch shift!
I just wanted to change shift with keyboard on samples while they play, so its ok right now, but i would have no clue how to change pitchshift and scratch at the same time anyways.

If you EVER find a software thats similar to the c1 then PLZ tell me man!
Ohh an i thought the c1 was already released cos Ricki Riccer got one...

i gotta check out that supercollider thing! I also want to learn MAX/MSP, but i can't find any tutorials or books besides those from cycling74. its a complicated tool for me.

well - what i use to pitch shift my cuts in real time is (as i said) discord 2 by audiodamage:

works fer pc and mac

so:

1 - open up live (make sure you have 1 audio and 1 midi channel at least)
2 - set your audio channel to receive audio from the input that your turntable(s) are connected to
3 - arm the aforementioned audio channel
4 - drop discord 2 into this audio channel (NB i find that the discord's preset 'crystal bells' works best for straight pitch shifting scratches but you may have to tinker with it to get the results you want - remember to set discord to recieve incoming midi info by selecting the 'midi to pitch' button on the right hand side of the plugin's display)
5 - arm the midi channel as well and set it up to receive midi info from your chosen input ('all inputs' is fine i think as long as you are only using one midi controller and only have 1 midi channel armed to receive midi info - otherwise, choose your weapon)
6 - in the midi channel's output section (the drop down menu), select the audio channel which contains the discord plugin. the name 'discord 2' should show up in the box beneath. this will send the midi info you input into the midi channel to discord 2
6 - so when you scratch (or do anything fer that matter), the pitch of the audio streaming into your audio channel (which contains discord 2) can be altered in real time

i use live 5 on a macbook pro and control discord using an m-audio oxygen 8 keyboard (i;m working on a custom midi controller designed to fit with a turntable though) - it's not ideal but it works - i still want a C1 more than anything

but this is as close as mortals can get to emulating the effects of a c1 at the moment (as far as i'm aware) however it does have it's own drawback's - depending on the sounds you are scatching, a pitch shifting plugin can distort audio input and make it sound undesirable - you'll have to experiment and see what sounds, settings and effects help you achieve the results you want
