hi - you still haven't been able to clone your screen to the second monitor?

right click on desktop to get properties
click on 'settings' tab
click on the monitor in the window with a 2 in it.
ensure that 'Extend my desktop onto this monitor' is NOT ticked

Now, when you flick between the display modes on your laptop you'll get

1. laptop screen only
2. both screens showing the same thing
3. external screen only.

I really hope that helps! I'm not sure I can break down that process any further!

Im with you all the way to "flicking between display modes". How do you do that?

When I turn of "extend my windows desktop to this monitor" (the nr2) it just shuts of, and in the menu becomes grey. And you get no option to change it from here.

i dont know what display adapter you are using. im using the matrox quick desk. there is a way to clone your screen onto the other one under advanced in the desktop properties. or you can goto control panel and find your display icon it should take you to your display adapter properties. on my computer it will clone or mirror the image on both monitors. however, whatever you do on the main screen it will also do on the secondary. im not sure about having two mice and keyboard setups though. that would probably require more hardware and more money than i have to spend at the moment.

if there is a way to do it, i would definitely like to find out. dont know if this helps or not, but its a shot.

good luck.

2 mouse and 2 keyboards works fine.

The graphic card is an Ati Mobility Radeon X700. I downloaded what I could find of software to it on the ati homepage. I have a program installed now: Hydravision. It does nothing to mirror the desktop.

And there is no settings in windows display properties that switches on mirror desktop.

Eighter the second screen shuts of, or it extends the desktop.

This is laptop function - on all the machines I've used you usually have to press a 'function' key on the laptop to access the extra functions, like screen switching.

If you haven't got that I can't help you anymore.

Aha! OK, theres two function key options that could be it. One with two screen icons, one black and one white, and one that looks like it adds light... Nothing happens though... Exept the one that adds light shuts of the laptop screen.

But atleast I should be able to figure it out in the manual! Darn, its far away... Acer Aspire 1690 anyone??

I think you are into something here!

Downloaded the user guide.

Pressing hotkey Fn + f5 should do this: "display toggle"

"Switches display output between the display screen, external monitor (if connected) and both the display screen and external monitor."

But nothing happens. Bouth screens are conected and turned on.
Thats the only hotkey that does anything to this. Others are brightness etc.

Aw well, guess I gotta call Acer suport... I mean I do also have a new acer screen, so the setup is acer all the way.
