The 12" iBook G4 I used for a while was nice until I got a 1440x990 19" widescreen. The difference was astounding! I could actually see more than 6 channels at a time.

I still have my old iBook G3 with a 12" screen. The screen size is perfect for me, small but enough for live gigs, the ibook is very light.

Astral, what is the *resolution* on that 12" screen? If it's 800x600=Walk away ;-)
The resolution is 1.280 x 800.

So is that OK?

Thanks so far for all your responses. I suppose that I should add that the real issue is weight. Actually, I really want something that weighs about 2-2.5 Kg. So I am assuming a 12" screen will be a lot lighter than what I already have. As I have already said, my 1.8 Centrino has served me well for the last three years but it is heavy to lug around. About 3 kilos, but including the carry case and power adapter it is about 4 or 4.5 kilos.

To remind you again, the machine I am interested in is a Dell XPS TM M1210.

Though while I am here, should I go for Vista or stick with XP Pro?

Thanks

I bought a MacBook for my wife- 12" screen. I love the portability and feel of it. The MacBook is very light, I might add. I am using a MacBookPro 17" (1680x1050) right now. It is very comfortable to use Live with. I think the 12"(1280x800) would feel a bit confining- but might work for performance, I wouldn't want to compose on it.

That's the same I have on my 13.3" - It's not a lot, but it's enough for me, at least.

It really depends upon the size of your penis or vagina

Sorry, not clear what i<3 means. Sorry.

By the way, to confuse the issue I have also found this laptop on the web:

Satellite Pro U200 Series

http://nl.computers.toshiba-europe.com/ ... _ID=116666

Slight correction to the previous link.

And there is the Dell link:

http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/produ ... l=nl&s=dhs

But the sites are in Dutch, but should be decipherable in terms of specs. So Dell or Toshiba?

Hope you don't mind me asking so many questions.

I find it's easier to get away with smaller screens (in case of usability, not resolution) using Expose on OSX.

I've gone from 12" powerbook to a 13.3" macbook. The new screen seems huge to me. Neither of them got in the way of me using Live.

I'd like a smaller laptop than the macbook though but until they make one (that runs OSX) I'm happy enough.

you've seen those cats in the coffee shop looking like they're playing battle ship
I just spit out my coffee, thanks.

a 12" with a port replicator and a big monitor at home is the perfect combo.
