Damn... I hope all of this sync/tempo hassle brings real musicians playing real instruments back to the forefront

well thats my point - guys who do sampled computer stuff have a bad rap because most musicians have the notion that its just 'pressing play' - since all the hard work of being consistent is done by the computer

I think thats a rep mostly from fad DJs and loop kiddies
I want to get away from being a slave to some "master tempo" and learn how to use my computer/software of choice like an instrument with flexibility

It takes upwards of 10 years of consistent practice to learn how to play an instrument well. but if the instrument is broken from the beginning - no amount of practice will make it sound good

Hey Maxxer, there is a discontinued product out there that will do what you want. It was called the Electrix Repeater. It had a genius tempo detection algorythm that will transmit MIDI clock based on an audio source. Hit it with a sub mix of the drums, and you'll be in sync all night.

i'm having a problem that i haven't been able to find specifically addressed -
I need to sync to a live drummer
Obviously i use the tap temp to get our initial tempos lined up. Its trickier than i thought it might be, but i'm getting it under control

I'm a drummer and im working on bringing my laptop into my band.
How would I go about getting a click track going through the headphones to me, but not to the pa system? (I.E only I can hear it)
One way I know of is to have all the tracks in mono and connect the left out to the pa system, then have the click track going in stereo to the right only with headphones plugged into the right. I've never had a real chance to try it out but are there any easier/better ways that would perhaps not require expensive gear and result in me compromising stereo sound?
