The whole minimal tech sound seems to be making a huge leap as far as being a popular style of dance music goes. I know it's already quite big over in Europe, but in Australia (and even New Zealand a little bit) people are really starting to get down with it... especially at the "electro" parties, the transition is quite nice.
The kind of music I am talking is that of which has very simple elements... lots of raw sounds and simple poly rhythmic beats... the kind of stuff that has been around since the Kraftwork days, but now it is being fed through current day mastering/post production, as well as current technology and knowledge of using more mathematical systems to produce music so it's like a completely new sound.
I think music is going to keep getting more and more intricate and intellectual, as the new generation of punters I see coming through are after a bit more mental stimulation than the usual "lets cram everything we possibly can in one tune down someone';s throat so they only have to stand there taking it and buzz out". It's almost like people are liking music with simple basic foundations and structural elements rather than shredding leads and huge break beats etc.
It's definitely the path I have decided to pursue, I will now take this opportunity to spam my latest tune

i think the proper question is "what was after electro?"
as for live bands being the next wave. there have already been one too many "rock revivals". if anyone does the "boooze, blooze, and tatoos" bullshit again, i'll be sure to ignore it...again.

Rock is a different kind of energy, you cant just get blasted and dance to it. It *needs* a live band.ohiowa wrote:i think the proper question is "what was after electro?"

I do think that a move toward more of a rock influence in dance music is on the way - just think of the popularity of good dance remixes of rock music. I think that the electro house scene may have done alot to expose alot of people to what was tech/berlin house I guess. Take the basslines from electro house, loose the hard tech influence, humanise it some more and blend and steal sonic influences from indy/rock type stuff...
Maybe eletro house around break beats instead of the usal 4/4 kicks?
Nothing to see here - move along!
I don't claim to be the most "hip" guy on the newest street credibility as far as pushing musical boundaries goes.....
While nothing new, I am seeing more integration of "jam band" energy hybridizing with electronica and sounding VERY cool.
:oops:Have any of you ever been to a grateful dead concert to see and experience 60,000 people in harmonic unison, dancing and in bliss?
Sure some of you have been to festivals where "dj this or that " may have rocked the house, but it is different from the energy of 9 musicians on stage interacting with each other in the moment.....
Now add the electronica to that organic vibe, ease off the the passé rock b*ll shit, and you have a new interesting sound that guys like sound tribe sector 9, particle, disco biscuits, mmw, and countless other acts are crafting "jamtronica"........

you're very welcome! there really is so much good music right now i think most of the people who complain just can't let go of their dead genres (aka electro, trance and whatnot).audio.android wrote:Thanks Spawnmaster... Those guys are amazing!!! Gives me faith for good electronic dance music. So sick of hearing the same-old.
as far as the other guy was saying about tech house i agree for the most part...the reason it seems to work so well today is because it's bringing back that feeling through a minimalistic view, of being able to dance for hours to the same bar with slight variations which also sort of chimes on Aisling's "hypnotic music" idea...which is really what EDM is all about. in fact the very name trance came about when people found themselves hypnotized by minimalistic synth riffs for 9+ hours dancing without stop.
Kind of desscribes groove armada when they play live.aisling wrote:Now add the electronica to that organic vibe, ease off the the passé rock b*ll shit, and you have a new interesting sound that guys like sound tribe sector 9, particle, disco biscuits, mmw, and countless other acts are crafting "jamtronica"........
TBH - I dont really like their CDs much, but as a live band - they are really good - very good musicians drawing from many influences and blending that with a bit of high energy acid 'ravesc' synth abuse.

IMO, you can't beat the vibe of a real, organic live band with real musicians.
I think DJing/computer music should be heard and not seen. Someone hunched over, staring at a laptop, just doesn't do it for me, not matter how much head-bobbing, alternate knee raises, and/or fist-pumping the air he/she is doing.
I'm glad to see more DJs/computer music people getting into visuals, or performing live with musicians. At least there may be something worthwhile to see.

listening to a lot of the music and dj sets these days its just souless noise. hopefully [from a house perspective] things will get back to having some of what house is all about.
the groove and soul.
on a personal note - im sick of all the retro harsh distorted 8 bit sounds. im hoping that we get back to some warmer production styles - rather the the aggressive stuff we are hearing ALL the time.
