The only thing I can complain about stability wise with Logic 8 is that yet another round of plug ins that in 7 were considered good enough to pass Audio Unit Validation failed.
So Chris is ranting probably partly due to that, and partly due to the fact that the major difference between AU and VST spec is graphic, and Chris handles the graphics of Audio Damage plug ins.

I'm going ot also say that 7.0 out the door was a mess on my system, so it could be Chris'es particular plug in collection etc.

Plus, the only thing that EVER crashes Live for me (besidses corrupted songs :( ) is third party plug ins. Ableton could do with at least using the Audio Unit Validation that comes with OSX.

Why are you comparing a .0.0 product to Live 6.0.7 (or whatever you're using)?

That doesn't sound like a fair comparison. Every X.0.0 release is going to have some issues.
Personally I don't take that attitude that all 0.0 releases will have issues. Yes it's likely, but it's not the way it should be and it bugs me to see people expecting it so. If it makes you happier, I still think Live 6.0 was more stable than Logic 8.0 is, I wasn't specifically referring to 6.07, you jumped through that hoop on your own, like well trained poodle.

Obviously I really like Logic 8 too, or else I wouldn't have bothered to write an entire song in it.

FYI, Logic played much nicer with me last night after I disabled every other app that was running and turned off my WiFi connection... no more crashes. I guess I'll just keep doing that for now until I figure out what the culprit is.

The GUI didn't improve though...

I wish more of the folks in the linked article wouldn't simply say it "crashes."
That's a useless term.

HOW does it behave, specifically?
Does it hang silently, or with the little beach ball?
Does it throw an error message or popup?
Does it throw disk to slow errors?
Does it throw Core Audio Overloads?
Does it shut down instantly (or disappear)?

I must admit, while I like LP8 in theory, and truly do think it's a step in the right direction, both in pricing and in matching my workflow, I'm disappointed that several defects that are now 2-3 years old weren't fixed.

For example, the big one for me is Core Audio. I know it's a problem that seems to only touch a few people, but it's very annoying, and now quite old.
It's also not a case of equipment horsepower, or dodgy plugins, or drives that are too slow, or running too many things at the same time, or having a "dirty" system, etc.
You can read my testing on the subject here (my testing and results are under user "inmazevo" half way down the page):
http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=15806

You can see other's experience with it here:
http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=16418
http://logicprohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=16237

There are a few other "trivial" defects, such as track inspector being unlinked to its associated arrange page track, external midi clock sync idiosyncrasies, etc.
Those are also years old now.

I do like Logic Pro 8, but I find that there are times that I'm just not interested in having my projects stop playing. That's such a basic thing, and it really, really, really should have been fixed. If you have it, it's quite annoying. Most who don't have it, don't understand what the problem is.

In any event... it's software. Some will have problems, and others will not. Some will like it, and others will not.

"jumped through that hoop"

I have no idea what that means, nor do I care to understand it.

I love the internet. You can always count on quality discourse.

Chris is 1/2 of Audio Damage, you have their delay if I recall. :)
