the comments are interesting, particularly:

Ableton Live is the most stable DAW in my experience, but give it a few more years of bloat and I'm sure it'll catch up with the older DAWS.

really hope the Abe's don't let that happen.

I haven't run into any problems with it either... so far it's been worth every penny I've paid for it.

I think a lot of the performance issues people are experiencing have to do with how they're using the program. I mostly use Logic for it's MIDI capabilities and I don't use that many 3rd party plug ins (just synths and Sonalksis stuff) so everything has been really stable for me so far.

I'm sure some of the problems that people are having will get worked out in the coming months.

There's definitely some bugs there, I've been using it a lot lately, and while much better than Logic 7, still not as stable as Live IMO. I wouldn't say it's that bad though, nothing to make me mad like that

Still, surprising for how long it was in development, and for being an Apple app. Hoping we see an update sooner rather than later.

Though, not complaining too hard, it did let me make this:

the biggest difference is in development process. live goes the public beta route to work out the kinks, while apple follows their 'ooh secret...ta da!' philosophy and lets the buyers do the first round of bug testing. while that works fine for hardware, it doesn't make much sense for software since public betas help hype a release. besides, think of how much money ableton saves by having us do the bug hunting dirty work.

Chris is a plug in developer. Audio Damage do great plug ins. At first they were not going to do Audio Units at all, and eventually came around.
The only thing I can complain about stability wise with Logic 8 is that yet another round of plug ins that in 7 were considered good enough to pass Audio Unit Validation failed.
So Chris is ranting probably partly due to that, and partly due to the fact that the major difference between AU and VST spec is graphic, and Chris handles the graphics of Audio Damage plug ins.

I'm going ot also say that 7.0 out the door was a mess on my system, so it could be Chris'es particular plug in collection etc.

Plus, the only thing that EVER crashes Live for me (besidses corrupted songs

) is third party plug ins. Ableton could do with at least using the Audio Unit Validation that comes with OSX.

I've been 8 for the first time today and it's already crashed twice in the past 5 hours or so. At least it seems to be auto-recovering fairly well, but it's still annoying.

And, damn, the GUIs for the plugins in Logic are HORRIBLE. HORRRRRRRRIIIIIBBBBBBLE. What the hell is up with the text that is too small to read, displayed in light grey on slightly darker light grey? They sort of look cool, but only until you try to read the text on any of them (specifically Space Designer, Ultrabeat etc... the generic plugin interfaces are fine).

The rest of the interface is pretty nice. But those plugins.... just makes me appreciate good old Ableton that much more.

Why are you comparing a .0.0 product to Live 6.0.7 (or whatever you're using)?

That doesn't sound like a fair comparison. Every X.0.0 release is going to have some issues.

I am really liking 8.0, and I am really enjoying Mainstage. Mainstage is more powerful/useful than I first thought.
