I recently solved an issue with my USB connected BCR, on Windows.
I should say that the issue was not with Live, but purely with the BCR and my computer. I used MIDIOX to troubleshoot the connection and that told me the issue was not Live

I tried all sorts of new cables -I downloaded the newest Behringer midi driver - nothing really worked. I kept getting the BCR randomly disconnecting.
Until one day I plugged the BCR into the front USB port (on my desktop) , at that point windows detected it as a new device, and from that day on it has worked flawlessly.

I think that somehow the port I used to use it on either had locked onto the wrong driver and just wouldn;t let go, or the hub wasn't supplying enough power from the motherboard USB header to that port group.
The front ports are served from a separate USB header on the board.

that's just guesswork - I stopped investigating when it started working reliably.

In my case it might have stopped working because I used another USB port than the one I started with. Even installing the driver for all the ports keeps getting Live confused, though no other program. That is really strange, because Live then locks it completely, so that no other prog can work with it until reconnecting. Why should another USB port bring up such problems? Good to hear though that it worked for you....

I have come across similar things a lot

it seems that there is an order to USB ports

if I plug an external HD into the one on the left then it's fine, and if nothing else is plugged into any USB port so are the two on the right

but I have a 4 way USB Hub for mouse and keyboard/printer and laptop colling stand

If I plug the HD in after them then I get the "this is not a high speed USB device" message

there seem to be 8 available USB ports on the bus - and of them only a couple are USB2

the further down the chain the further it degrades

Royce on the BCR yahoo group suggested ...

Try connecting to the old USB port and, assuming XP, right click My
Computer , select Properties, select Hardware tab, select Device
manager, select Sound, Video and Game Controllers.
There should be an entry "B-Control Midi (10/19/2005,1.2.1.3)"
(This is the version that you should have. You could disconnect the BCR
and connect to the front USB and see if it is the same driver - you
shouldn't have to reboot)

Right click this bad entry and select Uninstall.
After finishing the uninstall reboot your computer with the BCR off.
Turn it on and the driver should reinstall. Check with Device Manager.

does that mean I should deinstall all instances of the BCR drivers and then let Windows install it on its own again on one USB port? Or should Windows automatically install it as USB MIDI Device!?

well, you have the same info as I received.

I would uninstall any drivers and then windows should find the most up to date one on its own. I'm really not sure if you have the same issue as I did, as my BCR was flaky in all applications.

It might just be due to the fact that I MOSTLY and almost exclusively used it with Live. I only ran the other programs to see how the BCR behaves in there, and they just went fine. I though have no sudden disappearing, it is there or it is not there in the beginning/after loading the first song.

most people have no problems with them. If you do find yourself having a problem it is usually because there is something specific about your system. In my case Windows had installed a bogus midi driver.

Many people on these forums use one or two, on a regular basis. They are damn handy for the price

I tried what Angstrom said, BCF connected to front, BCR to rear, and the other way around... no joy. My BCF ALWAYS works, my BCR sometimes, more often not... AAARGH!!!!!

In my case it just appeared to work again after a while, with both the windows and the BCR-specific drivers. I assume that I disabled a windows service that shouldn't be disabled for the devices to work properly. I however have no problems anymore, so I guess that Angstrom was right when he said that in most cases it must be a problem on the user's side. Hope this helps you to investigate a little more, djsynchro.

I know this is not recomended, but it DOES work now so I am going to leave it for a bit and see if it keeps working, if it does: It would be driver/software related.

thats what I did and it worked for me.


one thing though - watch out for a certain bug .. glitchy audio output suddenly appears. There's a chance that this bug is related to the controlsurface selection, and possibly to the BCR using 'USB audio device'

Aaah so that's how you made it work?

Check this out: I turned out that the Behringer driver for the BCR was still there (on another USB port) so I switched the BCR back on, and (for now) this works:

-->> BCF on Behringer driver
-->> BCR as "USB audio device" (Windows driver)

Haven't had any glitches with the audio (yet).
wonder why the Behringer driver keeps crapping out for the BCR

Will report back my findings...

Question for Angstrom: Would you mind to have a look at services and try to see if you can start "Human Interface Device Access"? I have TinyXP and I can't start this service, a dll is missing, downloaded it fom the web, still doesn't work.

It's for extra buttons on multimedia devices etc... wonder if it's related to our mishaps.

Oh, my setup works now: BCF with Behringer driver, BCR with Windows driver.
It's not glitching, stupid fix but hey it works for now....
