I doubt it - I havent tried, I suggested this above^ and was just about to try it when I realised that it is obviously looking in key folders in the library - such as 'drums' 'kit' kick' etc etc

so the only way to do it would be to create an alias to those folders, which would then mean you lost the reference to the samples in those folders in the Library

nah...only solution now is to post a bug thread then keep it bumped

No, my description on that other thread was:

the library determines what is seen in the device browser proper,

but presets in other locations could have their own sample references, and the only downside would be not having them accessible via the device browser.

thus the need to create shortcuts and access them via the 3 user browsers..

but what is the concern here is that actually there could be some need for a preset to be completely contained in the "library" - which would blow that previous method apart.

again, it's not that I made that thread out of speculation, I did test everything I was saying!

so now I'm back to trying again with some EIC1 packs, at first with Live 7...

might be good if you could check the latter yourself - I wondered if it found multiple candidates because of the 'multimic' folder (same names?) but it said under candidates '1'

if this bug wasnt there then draggin the 'waveforms' folder (from the session drums own library I created) to the automatic search'' folder location would be a fairly minor inconvenience, but as soon as that candidate thing gets involved all auto-search/replace flies out of the window - and when each type of drum is in it's own folder manual replacement every time you want to change a preset is not a pretty thought

seems like an unholy stuff up and I'm quite bummed about this

there is no way I'll be able to have my normal library in the same location as the SD until I can afford another ext HD, so this is a real bummer for me

I was successful in using the method on an EIC1 pack in Live 7

so I feel safe saying that this is a problem with Session Drums in particular.

BTW - do you remember how big the 'multimic' pack is installed?

I've just been looking at how I could reshuffle and wondering if I just installed the stereo pack I might fit it

but my library is 24GB already and it's on a 47GB partition along with my projects folder which is about 18GB - so if I move the projects and only install stereo I may be able to do it

what a complete arse

one thing's for sure, I'll be getting a 500GB drive ASAP and I will NOT be partitioning anything ever again

well the problem is once you get it installed, there's about a paragraph of info on SD in the manual...i'm pretty new to live so i'm trying to sort out how this works, flying pretty blind at the moment!

yeah it jsut says 'session drums installed 28GB'

but I figure the multimic pack is something I would only install after I'd tried out the kits stereo then decided I need more control - so I dont really need to install them I dont think

Okay - I just tried something

if you change your library to the session drums one, then load a kit into the set - then save the set, then change the library back to your main one and open or create a new set, then load up the previous set then it remembers where all the samples are

so that's not such a big deal after all for a workaround

you just have to change libraries while you choose your kit then change back and save the set

ctrl/cmd + comma will open the prefs quicker

Bugger. Just waiting for my session drums dvd's to rock up in the mail and I read this...

Seems mad that the laptop is the LIVE performance tool and you need to drop 28 gigs on the main hard drive. I've got a 60gig 7200rpm drive in the laptop which is nice and fast for recording but who has a spare 28 gigs on their laptop for drum samples.

So, I've just read down this thread, and it's not making sense to me...LOL.

(again, I am a 'Live n00bie' and don't yet have my box OR manual...ordered online on Sunday and have only got the downloaded version)

Which library do you speak of? Does Live, sans EIC2, have any built in sound collections (loops etc...)? If I install EIC2 to an external FW drive, does that mean that Live can't see any of the (presumed) sounds that install with the initial pack?

interesting. I had given a quick try at saving a set - I guess I was more trying to see if it would cause Live to remember the sample location in general, for using the preset in fresh sets... which doesn't work

but good to know that at least the info is stored in the .als file even if it is not working on a library level..

I just had problems with EIC2 packs in Live 7..

so they have changed something for the worse. I thought it might be particular to a drum rack, but that can't be true because the EIC2 pack I installed was 'keys' which shouldn't have any drum racks.

there are a few packs which you can download off the ableton website. so yes..

currently I think you will have to use forge's workaround to run EIC2 off an external drive. (change library, load a preset, change back library, save set.)
