hello guys,

after reading this thread i think the best would be to allow some users (dedicated veterans, as someone said) or some abletons (if they have the time an resources to) to moderate these forums a bit.

the guest login should be keeped active. as far as my tiny experiences here allow to judge, the guest postings are important.

i think now, that some posts of guest users are from users using live for a long time and knowing tha tool in deep. and they post many solutions, tips and tricks. their postings are important for us all. so the guest posting function must be alive for fast responses.

maybe we should start an election about which users do you think are able and fair enough to be moderators? (dunno how to start an election - we should collect the usernames first before starting any vote), or what you mean about this?

let's keep our information flow alive, i love it.

I don't think that a person who doesn't care to spend 10 minutes of his time to register via email has anything useful to add to this community.

don't forget about the users who are already registered, but want to post a useful hint in a very creative second.. so they don't login and post it directly.. i think we should keep such postings alive?

I'll say yes just to make it a little bit more of an ass-pain for the trash to post, esp. under multiple names. Moderation can be a bigger job than you think though and I'm not sure how many resources Ableton will want to devote to it, although as time goes by and their product is gaining more attention, this could become a PR issue too.
An Ableton is usually watching the forum and answering questions though and what I think they should at least do is immediately delete posts which would generally be deemed offensive in most online communities ie posts containing obvious racist, sexist or homophobic abuse or intent.
If the forum does become registered-only, add a brief statement about how such hate-content isn't tolerated to the sign-up agreement and the dicks can't say they weren't warned.

I've already voted, but want to add that requiring posters to register will also get rid of the crappy SPAM we've begun to receive.

I agree that the archives should be open and public to read, but require registration in order to post.

the fact that it's OSX/mac only is probably the reason though - to start with you've already avoided the millions of PC users the world over, and generally speaking I think you'd probably find most trolls on the PC side of the tracks - apart from anything most kids would have PCs because they're cheap, and a larger percentage of mac users would be professionals because they're so ridiculously expensive they're the only people who can afford them! Generally speaking of course.
